Luca’s POV
I can barely keep my eyes open. I feel so weak. It could be from all the beatings, from not eating, from having my wolf suppressed or all three combined. It’s hard to think straight. I can’t get comfortable. Everything hurts. It’s hard to stay awake. But someone has a plan. Etta has a plan. I knew she’d help me. I know she’s talking about Jaxon when she said someone on the outside. I can’t wait to eat. I can’t wait to breathe in fresh air. I try to take a deep breathe but it’s too painful. Yeap, I’ve definitely got some broken ribs and probably internal bleeding. After lunch, it’s go time.

Etta’s POV
I keep looking at the clock and out the window. I’ve stayed under the covers of the bed so that they don’t realise that I don’t have the silver rings on. I need this to go perfectly. I know Luca got my mind link; I can sense it in the air. The amount of adrenaline that I can feel pumping round my body is actually ridiculous. If I’m not careful, I’ll end up having a panic attack. I can feel the ticking of the clock bouncing around my brain. Every tick feels like my own heartbeat. I’m just praying that this pays off. I’ve still not worked out my plan properly yet and I know that’s bad but my way of thinking is; you have a plan, it all goes to s**t so you have to improvise anyway. So, I’m cutting out the middleman and just hopping straight to the improvisation. As none of the rooms have doors on them, I don’t have to worry about unlocking a door. I can simply run into the room. Whilst deep in thought, it becomes apparent that I’m being watched.
Sure enough, as I slowly turn to the right, Troy is sat there with my lunch in his hands. Today’s lunch is a jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn accompanied by a side salad. His stare is so intense that I’m starting to worry that he can read my mind. I put my hand out to grab the plate, but he pulls the plate back, so I have no choice to look at him and meet his gaze.
“What’s the rush darling?”
I stuttered initially and then finally manage to get my words out.
“I’m just hungry after last evenings activities and want to make sure I’ve got enough stamina for later.” I have to suppress a shudder and the nausea as those words leave my mouth. But I’m not sure that he believes me. Troy turns his head to one side like he is studying my every movement and opens his lips as is he is going to say something, but he doesn’t. He puts the plate down on the side table and I watch his every move. I’m starting to feel uneasy about this whole situation.
Please don’t hurt me.
Oh crap, I sent Jaxon a mind link. I really need to control these. My facial expression must have changed just then as Troy is leaning towards me with curiosity in his eyes. He lets out a slight smirk and moves even closer.

Jaxon’s POV
I haven’t sensed Etta since around breakfast time and it’s making me go insane. I thought my wolf was bad the day we found out Luca had disappeared, but I’ve never seen him like this before. So much anger. He won’t rest easy until Etta is in our arms and Troy and Hunter have paid with their lives. He is after blood, and I know he won’t stop until he gets it. I know Etta is still alive and hasn’t been hurt as I’d be able to feel it otherwise. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. I have a feeling she is trying to block me out, but I can’t understand why. She knows that I’m trying to help them.
Please don’t hurt me.
This mind link just pops up and sends me into, what feels like, a tornado of rage. My wolf has full control right now. All I can do is watch. I’m still in the human form but he is in control. There are cups and plates flying and smashing against the walls. Furniture is being overturned. Paintings are being yanked down and stamped on. The noises that are escaping my mouth are not growls though, it is in fact, cries, and whimpers. He is crying at the fact he’s not had his mate by his side these past 5 years, he’s crying that she is in danger, and he is crying that she is scared.
A knock on the office door is enough to get my wolf to retreat and for me to gain control once more. It’s Conan. As he walks in the office, his eyes are scanning the room at the destruction that has just taken place. But he is more shocked about finding me in the middle of the room crying my heart out. He comes over slowly. I can tell he’s cautious, as he hasn’t seen my eyes yet, he’s not sure if I’m in control or if my wolf is. I simply gesture for him to sit beside me, and I feel him relax a little when he realises that I’m back in control. We sit in silence.
Conan clears his throat. “Jax. What’s going on mate? What’s happened?”
I turn to look at him with my watery eyes, with tears threatening to fall down my cheeks at any minute.
“Etta’s been blocking me out since breakfast, but I just got a mind link from her begging for them not hurt her. She obviously didn’t mean to send me that message.” I simply lower my head in my hands.
“Mate, you know she is strong. She wouldn’t block you out if she didn’t think it was necessary to do so. You know her better than anyone.”
All I can do is let out a big sigh. I know he is right, about everything. She is strong and she will come back to me.
