Jaxon’s POV I’m in the middle of a pack meeting, trying to figure out where Etta and Luca are. Conan, Travis, and River are fighting it out over where they might be. I’m just slumped in my chair at the table replaying everything that has happened in my mind. I feel empty without Etta. I have done for the past 5 years. I’ve not seen Nova since Luca’s disappearance and I’m actually quite happy about that. He was on patrol that night on the edge of our territory as we had intelligence that a rogue had been spotted. Nova must be involved. She just must be. They promised they’d keep Etta safe and not harm her. I can feel a low growl rising in my throat. Everyone in the room suddenly stops arguing and looks at me. I nod my head and they pick right up where they left off. I then receive her mind link. I don’t know who you are, but I trust you. Luca is being kept in room 61. He’s unconscious and tied up. I don’t who Luca is, but you must help him. Please. Our wolves are being suppressed by silver rings on our ankles. My wolf, who has still been pacing constantly, instantly calms upon hearing her voice ringing in our head. Even now, she’s trying to help others. Even though I know that she is scared, she is still putting others before herself. That’s just one of the many things that I adore about her. Her selflessness. She has given me a lifeline. Thanks to her, I know exactly where they are keeping Etta and Luca. I stand up and walk over to the map that is laid out on the table that is situated in the middle of the room. It’s a map of our territory, the Lotus Pack territory, and the Crescent Moon Pack territory. I slam my fist down on the map within the Lotus Park territory, pointing out an old, abandoned school. “Luca is in room 61. That’s the only building in their territory that will have that number of empty rooms.” The whole room turn to look at me. Shocked. I’m going to have to tell them everything. I’m going to have to tell them about Etta and Nova. I’m going to have to tell them all the truth. It’s time. They have crossed the line, so the deal is off. There’s no holding back now. They need to pay. Revenge. They can’t keep her away from me now. I need her back here. Where she belongs. I’m now craving to hear her sweet voice again, but I know she’ll be exhausted right now. If what she says about having her wolf suppressed is correct, it would have taken all of her energy for her to send that mind link. She is incredible and is stronger than she thinks. Nobody knows how strong she actually is. Except me. I can feel how powerful she is. Thank you, my little wolf. Rest now. We will come find you both and help you. I can sense that she has gone to sleep, so now my work really begins. I turn around to face the pack and all eyes are firmly on me. You can see the interest in their faces. I don’t think I can go through telling them all the whole truth right now. It’s too painful to even think about right now. I must concentrate on getting them out safely and back here. I need to tell them a little, just so they know how important Etta is to me. To us. She is the rightful Luna, but she doesn’t even know that and that upsets my wolf. My mate. Must find her. Find her NOW! I must calm him down. We can’t go in all guns blazing. Who knows what they’ll do to Etta and Luca if we do? I take a deep breath whilst trying to decide what information I should tell the pack. Okay, here goes: “Since Luca’s disappearance, Nova has not been seen and we have a feeling that she’s involved in that somehow. Also, an old friend of mine called Etta, is being held captive at the same place as Luca. I have managed to mind link with her, and she has told us that Luca is in room 61.” Travis looks at me, and I can see a question forming in his mind; “How are you mind linking with this Etta? You can normally only mind link with your mate or fellow pack members?” I can see that he is suspicious. “As Etta and I used to be part of the same pack, I guess that’s how we’re still able to mind link. It isn’t the best connection and doesn’t always work but right now, we’ll take all the help we can get.” I can tell Travis isn’t completely convinced about that answer, but he doesn’t question it. Which I’m thankful for if I’m being honest. I can’t tell him the whole truth. Now is not the right time. Luckily, Conan gives me a reassuring nod and starts to take over. I know he has my back. Conan explains to the pack about Nova’s history. She originally came from the Crescent Moon Pack, one of the most feared wolf packs. Her father is the alpha: Hunter. He was, and still is, a dominant and ruthless alpha, who likes to terrify others. He has a history of destroying entire packs and bloodlines if they don’t meet his demands. He has four daughters and one son: Nova, Anya, Sierra, Nia, and Titan. He had this crazy idea that all his daughters should be Lunas. Naturally, his son Titan will become alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack. He started formulating this plan when his daughters were 16. Hunter extorted the alphas of the other packs to make them agree to this deal. That deal was why Etta was taken from our pack. That’s the reason my wolf has been angry and unsettled for the past 5 years. It’s all because of Hunter Crescent. When the time is right, I’ll tell my pack what this deal truly entailed. Right now, it’s just too painful. ********************************************************************************** Jaxon POV Whilst the pack are still debating about our next steps, I find my mind wandering to thoughts of my dad. After watching him go through losing his mate, my mother, I knew I had to do all in my power to protect Etta. Even if that meant Etta didn’t know who I was or that I even existed. My mum was, to put it simply, beautiful. Not just her looks but the way she was and the way she carried herself. Kindness and understanding radiated from her in all that she did. She always made time for everyone in the pack and was always happy to help anyone in need. Even those few rogues that she invited in for dinner one Christmas because she didn’t think anyone should be alone at Christmas. My dad was not happy about that, but he would never argue with her, as he knew it was just in her nature to care for others. Everyone was drawn to her, like a moth to the flame, even humans. Her empathy and compassion allowed her the ability to diffuse any situation that occurred. Even heated business meetings that my dad attended. Can you imagine, all those hot-headed, stubborn alphas all in one room listening intently to every word my mum was saying. The thought of those meetings still makes me smile. The day that my mum died, she took a piece of my dad’s heart and soul with her. He changed. I saw the pain it had caused him and his wolf in his eyes and he didn’t even try to hide it. He was never the same again. I miss the way he used to be. He couldn’t even bare to look me in the eyes anymore, unless they were my wolf’s eyes and even then, he struggled. I get my blue eyes from her, you see. I can tell that every time my dad looked into my eyes, he could see my mum and sadness would start exuding from him. He was a good alpha and an even better father. 5 weeks after my mum was murdered, he stood down from being alpha and handed the pack down to me. I wasn’t ready for it. Heck, I hadn’t even finished my alpha training. I was 2 years away from completing it. I don’t blame him though. I miss her too. It was the same for River, my sister. Although, the more I think about it, it is harder for River. She looks exactly like mum and dad can’t even throw a glance her way. I know it hurts her, but she is just as understanding as mum was, so she doesn’t push the subject. River has long, golden blonde curly locks with the same piercing blue eyes that reflect the colour of our favourite pristine lake. Her mannerisms mirror those that our mum possessed. She has a tranquil aura about her, and she knows how to calm me down, slightly. But boy is she feisty. She will do anything needed to protect those that she loves dearly. I know River will make a wonderful mother one day, when she finds her mate. River loved Etta and couldn’t wait for her to become officially mine, then she’d finally have the sister she always wanted. I know it’s still painful for my sister as she was there that day that Etta was taken from us. We knew the day was coming but we just wanted to enjoy the time that we had left with Etta. We never told Etta about the deal. She would have protested too much but I just had to protect her from harm, and this seemed like the best option. I’m an i***t to think that this would even work. The heartache I feel every day since the day he took my Etta away from me is almost unbearable. She is the reason we haven’t given up yet. Etta is the first thing on my mind when I wake up and the last thing I think about when I fall asleep. She’s even in my dreams. I must keep reminding myself and my wolf that the reason we accepted that bloody deal was to keep her alive and safe, but I can see that’s backfired. We could have been together for the past 5 years, tackling all these problems together, holding hands through it all. I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought it would keep her shielded from harm. I hate Hunter. I loathe him. He knew exactly what he was doing. I know he has something to do with my mum’s death, but I’ve never been able to prove anything. Without proof, I can’t challenge him. It’d be like walking into my own death. That’s another reason I agreed, reluctantly, to the deal. I wanted to get information on him and find evidence that he was involved. I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought it’d be easier to get this information if I were married to Nova, but she’s just as sly as him, if not more so. I didn’t want to marry her. We’ve not even completed the mating ritual. I’ve never been able to bring myself to do it, even though I know Nova would have trusted me more, I couldn’t do that to my Etta. Even though Etta didn’t know who I was. My wolf whimpers at this thought. She doesn’t even know who we are. Must find mate. ********************************************************************************** Etta’s POV Ever since I overheard Troy and the other bloke talking outside my room, the air in the building has changed. I can sense the tension. Troy has been coming to see me and brings my lunch every day, but I still don’t trust him. After what I overheard, I need to be cautious, even though my wolf is still being suppressed, I can feel that she does not like him. I did ask Troy why I still had the silver bands around my ankle and his reply was simply: “It’ll help you recover quicker. It’s better this way. Trust me my little wolf” I shuddered when he called me his little wolf. I’m not his little wolf and that’s the one thing I do know for certain. My wolf agrees with this. I did manage to control a snarl which was threatening to surface when he said those words. I don’t want him knowing that my inner wolf is not being suppressed as much anymore and that she is in fact getting stronger. I need her to be strong and protect me. Whoever has managed to mind link me, is the only one allowed to call me his little wolf. I haven’t heard anything about Luca since I found out where he was. I recognise the name, but where from? I don’t want to ask about him either, as I feel they may hurt him if I mention his name. I know Luca has something to do with me but I’m just not sure what that is yet. I will find out though. A wave of determination comes over me just as the voice rings in my ears. We know where you both are. We are formulating a plan now. You will be safe soon. I promise. I will not let anyone harm you again. My lips start to upturn at the ends and a smile begins to form on my face. Troy looks at me suspiciously and asks why I’m smiling. I must try to come up with an excuse quickly. I can’t allow him to know that I’ve been receiving mind links and that they are coming to help me and Luca. He’s still staring at me. I can feel panic starting to take hold, but I’ve got this. I simply turn to him and say, “I like it when you call me little wolf.” Troy looks a bit taken aback at first, but then a sly smile forms on his face. This is a smile that makes you nervous, makes you feel vulnerable and unsafe. Right now, all I wanted to do was escape these shackles and run, but I compose myself. “Good, because Etta, you’ll always be my little wolf. Nothing will ever change that.” I can tell there is a threat hidden in there, but I can’t let him know. I can’t let him win. I have no choice but to go along with whatever this is if I want to find my true mate. If I want to find Luca and who’s responsible for keeping me locked up. He kisses my forehead and starts to leave the room. He stops at the doorway and turns around, staring into my eyes, so I look down. It’s like he’s trying to read what’s on my mind. He says my name and I look up to him to meet his gaze. “You will always belong to me.” As he turns to walk away down the corridor, I can’t help but shudder. I didn’t know that I was holding my breath until a big sigh escapes. Hurry. Please. ********************************************************************************** Etta’s POV I wake up with a sudden jolt. The screams from down the corridor woke me up from my dream once more. I was dreaming of the blue-eyed guy again. Those screams were almost deafening, and I had to cover my ears with my hands. You realise that it’s bad when you recognise those cries. Every morning for the past 3 days, I’ve woken up to that sound, the same painful shrieks from a few doors away. I have a horrible sinking feeling that I know who is being punished. I think it’s Luca. I must help him, and oh my god, the guilt is eating me up. Why aren’t they punishing me like that? Instead, I get the royal treatment like lady muck. What could he have done to cause these daily beatings? He won’t be able to shift into his wolf either because, no doubt, they’ll be suppressing his wolf, just like they’re doing to me. My wolf still grows stronger, and those cries are just making her angry. She wants revenge on whoever is doing the beating and whoever owns this place. I need to reach out and get help. This mind link will wipe me out for the rest of the day, but what else can I do? You need to hurry up. They are torturing Luca. I hear his shrieks daily and it’s only getting worse. He needs you now! I can tell he is strong, but I don’t how much longer he can’t take it. **********************************************************************************
