The Revelation

Jaxon’s POV I’m still in the office with Conan, River, and Travis trying to figure everything out. No matter, how many times I tell River to go to bed, she doesn’t listen. Luca is her brother as well, so she is just as motivated to get him back. I can’t remember the last time I slept soundly in my bed. After Conan had told them about Nova’s past and which family she came from, I could tell that it created more questions than answers. I’ve been feeding them information in dribs and drabs. The pack now know that one of the reasons I married Nova was to get information about Hunter regarding my mum’s death. They all understood this as she was like a mum to them all. It’s the mind link I didn’t want to receive. I had an inkling that they would be hurting Luca, but I hoped that they would leave him alone. That hope has been well and truly, shattered now. To hear that they are torturing him is enough to bring me to my knees with my head in my hands. I begin to sob. Loudly. It’s all becoming too much. First Etta, now Luca. Why are they hurting those that I love dearly? Get yourself together Jaxon, this is exactly why they are doing it. My inner wolf tells the truth, but it can be brutal to hear. I get back to my feet and look at the faces staring blankly at me. I can’t bare to look at them whilst I say this, so I simply stare at the floor. I can already tell what the reaction is going to be. “Etta.” River runs to me and asks me if Etta’s okay. All I can do is nod but still don’t look at her. My gaze is still firmly fixed on the rug beneath my feet. I take a deep breath to try to mutter these words out. It’s going to be even harder now with River standing right next to me. “Etta thinks they are torturing Luca.” The gasps from the pack echo around the room. My sister drops to her knees and starts shaking her head. “Etta is hearing his cries daily and says they are getting worse. She sounds desperate and heart broken.” Now River starts uncontrollably crying. I kneel beside her and bring her into a hug. I wish I could take all of this away. She looks up at me and I notice her eyes change colour. Her wolf is wanting to break out. Her once piercing blue eyes have turned black. I quickly flash my wolf’s eyes and it’s enough for her wolf to retreat and for River to regain control. “WE HAVE TO DO SOMETHING JAXON!” We all turn our heads to the door and to my surprise, my dad is stood there. I’m not even sure how long he has been there for and how much he has heard. I’ve not seen him this animated in such a long time, but he seems angry. Really angry. I rise to my feet, and he marches straight over to me and puts his face in mine. “Did you not hear what I said son? We must save Luca. He’s in this mess because of you.” Utterly shocked by his statement, I take a step back. Unsure if I actually heard him correctly. He repeated that last sentence again. I can’t believe he is blaming me for this. Luca was on patrol after we got intelligence of a rogue in our territory. I didn’t tell him to investigate, he volunteered. “Don’t you see Jax, that rogue wolf must have been Etta. That’s why they took Luca. They see him as a threat.” That’s when the penny dropped. I finally understood why they took him. Etta must have run away, and her instincts were bringing her back to me. Luca went to confront the rogue wolf and they found Etta and Luca together. But my dad can’t just blame me. How dare he? I had been alpha for 2 weeks when Hunter came about his deals. It should have been my dad doing the negotiations, not me! “With all due respect dad, you should have been the one in the meeting with Hunter 5 years ago. Not me.” I try not to let my anger spew out as I say it. He simply lowers his head and nods. That’s all the acknowledgement that I need. Travis takes this opportunity of vulnerability on our part, to ask what the deal was and what it entailed. I can see the other pack members look from him to me in equal curiosity. They have the right to know and the more that they do know, the better it’ll be for us in the long run, so I nod and gesture for them all to sit down. My dad sits down next to River to continue comforting her whilst I tell them all about Hunter’s deal. “As you already know, Hunter wanted all 4 daughters to be Luna’s of strong packs. Nova was the last one he had to marry off. Even though we were the strongest pack, Hunter went to the Lotus Pack first to create an alliance. Hunter knew that we would not bow down to his demands and some of his pack had got tired of wiping out entire bloodlines and threatened to leave the pack, so he had to come up with new ways. He knew my dad wouldn’t back down as he came to see him 3 months before I became Alpha. This is why I think he has something to do with my mum’s death. I reckon he knew that my dad would be heartbroken and stand down. Hunter also knew that I hadn’t completed alpha training, so would be inexperienced in this kind of confrontation.” I have to pause to compose myself. I only want to explain this once, so I decide to give all the details I can. I look around the room and can see the pack members staring at me intently and I can tell they’ve been taking everything in. My mind drifts to Etta and this is enough to give me strength to carry on telling them all about this. “The real reason why I’ve been able to mind link with Etta is because she is my true mate.” An audible gasp engulfs the room. “Hunter went to the Lotus Pack and made a deal with Troy’s father, Killian, who was the alpha at the time. The Lotus Pack were not keen on peace treaties with humans, so had been trying for many years to overturn it but as ours was the stronger pack in this part of the land, they had to stay in line. This obviously did not sit well with Killian, so when Hunter went to them with a slimy deal, they didn’t even hesitate to agree. Now the Lotus Pack and Crescent Moon Pack were working together, they could have taken our pack and wiped us all out. Instead, they decided to make us suffer for their gain.” I have to take a few deep breaths here just so I can muster the strength to utter the following words. “Killian wanted Troy to have a strong and beautiful wife who would make an exceptional Luna. Hunter wanted Nova to be Luna of our pack. If I didn’t agree to the deal, they were going to kill Etta and the entire pack. I thought I was doing the right thing… I agreed to marry Nova in return for Etta’s safety. So, they took Etta five years ago. They wiped her memory and she married Troy. But the deal has been broken now as Etta is no longer protected from harm.” I can feel tears starting to form and have to try to hold them back, but I clench my fists at the thought of Etta being harmed. The pack look on at me sympathetically, as if encouraging me to talk more. “Even though I never completed the mating ritual with Etta, we have an incredibly strong bond. I know it is only getting stronger, but it simply doesn’t make sense why, as we’ve not seen or spoken to each other in 5 years. She now resides 103 miles away, on the other side of the Lotus Pack territory, and they keep wiping her memory. I’ve not been trying to mind link her, but she has accidently been sending some my way and when I found out that Luca was missing, I knew she’d be able to help us, well me, so I sent her a mind link.” I turn to my dad, and I can see that there are tears in his eyes. He is still holding River. “My dad is right. Etta must have been the rogue wolf we got intelligence of. She probably escaped, and her instincts were bringing her back here, to her rightful pack. I have a suspicion that Nova was the one that rose the alarm of the rogue and Luca volunteered, as he usually does, to investigate. I think this is why Nova has not been seen in 3 weeks. Troy would have been searching for Etta and came across both of them, hence why he took Luca. I know Etta doesn’t have any recollection of this pack or even me, but her wolf does. She is having the same dream every night and I have a feeling it is of the night she got taken. I can sense her emotions and it is the same emotions every time she wakes up. She also sends accidental mind links, describing the dream. She is starting to question whether it’s a dream or a memory. I can tell her wolf is having a part in this. They can wipe her memory but not her wolf’s memory, and right now, she is relying on her wolf’s instincts.” I instantly fall to the ground, crumpled in a mess on the floor. Exhausted. Simply exhausted. Conan begins to take over and tries to formulate a plan. I can tell the pack feels more united and determined to find them both. Some of them even spoke about getting revenge on the two packs, but I can’t think of that right now. All I want is Etta and Luca back here, safe. **********************************************************************************
