END OF TRUST
( CHAPTER 5)
I was 18 years old by then, and Rayhana was 19. She was older than me in age ,but in humility, she deserved the best award also.
Our community was filled with bullies among boys and girls. We managed to escape some of the wraths they triggered until we grew to this extent.
It was on a golden hour, towards the twilight. I was walking down the street along with Rayhana to go shopping . It was so terrible meeting with those groups of thugs . Their faces looked like hammered irons, and their eyes reddish from the effect of hard drugs.
With me around ,Rayhana stayed calm. She thought, I, too, would intimidate them . For that, they would not tamper with her modesty . With her hijab, she looked super ravishing.
" Salam Salam hot babe," one of the boys said, coming to confront us. I was filled with fear and the same time rage. Rayhana was looking at me instead of looking straight at them . Her eyes were showing fear, and her cheeks turned red in dread.
I wanted to depart along with her. But many of them gathered around us,one of them harrasing her . But I was there, present before their eyes. They never did anything to me, not a bad word or any battery.
Rayhana was busy shouting on top of her voice for them to stop.
"Leave her alone." I said with full temerity from my heart ❤️.
"Guess who is talking," one of them said humorously.
I wasn't aiming at being stubborn because I knew what gangs could do on the street. I didn't want to end up being a dead meat at that juncture. But they kept pushing me to do the worst.
Something in me grew my anger to the extreme. One of them seemed like the ring leader went ahead in pecking her cheeks. A thing I hadn't done to my own betrothed, now a stranger was doing it to her .
" Stop this, please, dont make me dangerous, please," I said, yelling out vociferously
They all burst into rude laughter.
" Guess who is talking ." Same guy repeated.
At a point, I felt it was a trap. They wanted to infuriate me to the utmost. They were testing my patience.
Still, they never stopped. On a second trial, he pecked her cheek again, holding her by the waist this time around. This was when I targeted his neck and struck hard with my hand straightened . I felt the pain given to him as he groaned loudly in agony.
At this point , Rayhana knew the troubled that awaited me. We could have run away only if I endorsed her advice.
I was so obdurate , thinking I could stay to contend with them.
After a while, hands quickly grabbed my arm from the back . The ring leader came forward, landing punches on my face.
I had to do something to salvage myself. With full force, I hit his belly with my leg, and he staggered. Striving to fight back was the danger I got myself into, an accident that almost took my life.
At a point in the middle of the fight, I heard the yelling voice of Rayhana, shouting my name. When I turned to look, someone from behind me stabbed my stomach deeply . Before I could even notice the pain, blood was already rushing out..
After this stab, the gangsters set on their heals. I remained transfixed, staring at Rayhana with my eyes going dizzy.
"Rayhana," I said, smirking instead of crying.
I noticed the look on her face. That was the first time she hugged and kissed my cheek. Rayhana kept patting my cheek, wanting me to stay awake. She wanted to lift me on her back immediately, but I was too heavy for her.
Luckily, Rayhana struggled to carry me up. On her back was where I lost my consciousness. The severe pain I felt looked like that part of my belly was missing in my body. It was as if thousands of iron we hooked on my body. That was when I realised that death could be so close to human beings.
