Chapter 13

Sophia

I am waiting for Daniel while sitting in the café near my dorm. He is going to come here and pick me up.

We have decided to spend our time together while having breakfast before going to college.

We do it quite often nowadays. I like spending my time with him. But he is running late for some reason.

It’s been six months since the day when he almost killed Landon. Yes, he almost killed him on that day and we realized it later when it became a big issue.

Landon’s father caused a big ruckus in the principal’s office and of course any father would, if his son gets bed ridden almost for a month.

His condition was bad. Few of his ribs were broken, his left arm got fractured. I felt bad for him but actually speaking he deserved it.

Principal called Daniel’s parents and mine as well. Daniel’s mom came and handled the situation for Daniel. It was not a big deal for her. I thought it’s good to be a child in rich family.

But she caused me a little trouble. She came to meet me in my dorm and said all those things a mother of boy says to a girl who she thinks is a trouble for her child.

But I didn’t say anything to her because I knew that her son got in trouble because of me. So I let it slide for Daniel’s sake. Because I think he doesn’t know about her mother’s visit to me.

Daniel told me that she loves him too much and can do anything for his sake. He is close with his family.

He said that he doesn’t get to spend much time with his father as most of the time he is on business trips. But still he loves his father.

He has a older sister Crystal and he is very close to her just like two best friends.

He doesn’t live with his parents and lives alone in an apartment which is located a little far from college but he says it’s good because he likes long drive.

Regarding my parents, my mom came and met with principal.

Everyone in the college was shocked to find out that my mother is Natalie Williams, one of the famous fashion designer and owner of the biggest fashion boutique in the country.

Even I was shocked to see her here because I didn’t inform them about incident. It’s not because I was scared to tell, it’s because they don’t care whatever I do.

They are so ignorant about my matters that sometimes I think even if I go and die it won’t affect them. And this is all just because of one single person who is my step father.

He is the person I hate the most in my life.

Daniel asked about my parents to me and I told him about my bonding with them. He could not believe me that a family can be this ignorant towards their child.

I told him that I also don’t get along with any of my family members. He asked the reason but I couldn’t bring myself to tell him about it.

And he understood. He said there is no rush because we have long way to go.

After the incident we became really close. At first it was difficult for me to trust him and his friends but gradually they were able to break the ice around my heart.

We started from being friends but soon he started making his place in my heart with his care and protection.

No one has tried bullying me after that incident.

I was worried about the video that Jack had made on that day. I know the phone was broken but CCTV footage of cafeteria was making me worried.

But Daniel took care of that as well. He is really possessive of me but never gets in my way if I want to do something. He is supportive of me.

I love spending my time with him. Apart from Sarah he has also became an important part of my life.

After two months of the incident, he again confessed his feelings for me and this time I said yes without any hesitation. Because what he does for me is something no one has ever done for me except my real father who passed away when I was fifteen.

I guess I have fallen hard for him. And I hope his feelings are as deep as mine.

I am still waiting for him in the café but he is nowhere in the sight. He never gets late for our appointments and if by any chance he is going to be late he informs me. But I didn’t get any call or message from him.

I called him to ask where he is but it is turned off. Now I am starting to get anxious. Different scenarios flashed into my mind and none of them were good.

Shaking off all the thoughts I decided to get out of here to check on him. I was just about to get up from my chair when door of the café opened and he entered inside.

I took a breath of relief upon seeing him alright but my breath got stuck in my throat when my eyes fell on his bleeding forehead and elbow.

He stood in front of me and my hand instinctively went to his forehead. But before I could ask him what happened, he pulled me into a hug.

“I’m okay. Don’t cry” he whispered slowly in the crook of my neck rubbing my back.

I realized that I have started crying. My silent cry turned into sobs when I wrapped my arms around him.

“Hey relax, I am okay. It’s just a small wound” he said pulling away from the hug. He made me sit on the chair and pulled another chair to sit beside me.

He made me drink a little water. After a while I calmed down and asked, “What happened? Why are you hurt?”

“It’s nothing, I just got into a small accident. But there is nothing to worry about” he said wiping my tears.

“But how? Leave it, first we have to go to hospital and treat it” I said getting up but he again made me sit.

“Will you relax Sophia, please? I have something very important to talk with you” he said. He looked concerned about something.

“What is it? Is everything alright?” I asked now getting worried myself.

“Not here, let’s go somewhere else” he said getting up. We came out and entered inside his car. The driver started driving.

It is surprising that he brought driver with him. He doesn’t like it when someone else drives for him.

Thankfully there was a first aid kit in the car so I tended his wounds for him. He was staring at my face continuously without looking away. He is in deep thoughts.

“Will you marry me Sophia?” the words left his mouth and my eyes widened. I stared into his eyes to find any hint of joke or something but he was damn serious.

“What are you saying?” I asked.

“I love you Sophia and want to spend my whole life with you” he said.

“But….” I was unable to form any sentence because of shock. He loves me and wants to marry me.

“Don’t you feel the same for me. Don’t you want to be with me” he asked.

“I do. I love you. But marriage, isn’t it is too early” I said.

“It’s not. And I want to prove to my mom that she is wrong and I am right” he said and now I was confused. What is he talking about?

“What’s the matter Daniel, tell me? What’s going on in your mind” I asked.

“I was talking about you with my mom today in the morning. I told her I love you. But she says you are not right for me” he started and I listened to him.

“She said that you are with me just because of my money but I told her that your family is one of the richest family. But she knows that you don’t get along with them and she thinks that is why they don’t provide anything to you” he paused.

“She thinks you are just a greedy women like everyone who comes to me just for my money. She said she will never accept you for me.” he said.

“And what about you? what do you think about me?” I asked.

“I know you love me and will be with me forever” he said. I felt good to hear that he trusts me.

“So that is why I left everything” he said and again I was shocked. He doesn’t mean what I am thinking right?

“She said if I don’t stop hanging around with you then she will stop supporting me financially and I will have to live just as Daniel and will not be a part of Knight family” he said.

“And what did you say?” I asked dreading his answer.

“I told her that I will choose you over everything. I just left everything and made my way to meet you on my bike”

“But her words kept repeating in my mind and I got into accident. I wasn’t paying attention on the road. He is my driver who was following me on my sister’s order. He came to rescue me and dropped me off to café” he explained everything to me.

But my mind was not paying attention to his blabbering.

“You can not give up on your family like this Daniel because of me” I said.

“For you I can leave everything Sophia, everything. I don’t want these materialistic things, if I have you” he said holding my hand.

“It feels nice to say and hear those words. But reality is harsh Daniel, because when you really have to leave everything you have, that luxury, then you start regretting ever saying these words” I said trying to make him understand.

The car came to halt but we didn’t get out. His expressions changed and he said, “Does that mean, You really don’t want me to leave my money”

“Are you saying that you will not accept me just as Daniel.” He scoffed and continued, “It means you really are after my money, huh?”

“Daniel….” I could not complete my sentence when he asked, “Just answer my one question, ‘will you marry me' if I leave my everything for you”.

His question shocked me. He thinks I said those things because I want his money. Didn’t he said he trusts me?

I didn’t say anything and kept staring into his eyes.

A humourless chuckle left from his lips, “My mom was right. Your silence is your answer Sophia”.

He laughed like a crazy man for a while and suddenly stopped and gritted, “Get Out”.

“Daniel please….” I started but he again shouted, “Get. Out.”

I sighed in defeat and came out of the car. I started walking in the direction of my dorm but my heart didn’t allow me to leave him here.

I again turned on my heals and entered inside the car. My heart clenched in pain when his teary eyes met mine.

As soon as I sat down beside him he pulled me into a hug. I rubbed his back with my palm trying to stop my tears from falling.

“I am sorry Sophia. I didn’t mean what I said. I know you are not after my money…..” I cut him off and said

“Let’s get married” he pulled away from the hug, his eyes were wide open as saucers due to shock.

“Are you…..” he again started.

“I will marry you Daniel. And it’s not because I want to prove anything it’s because I really love you and I know you love me too” I said.

“I love you” saying these words he pressed his lips on to mine in a passionate kiss making my heart beat loudly.

And I melted into the kiss with the first person I have fallen in love with.
