This chapter begins as Arya and Sarah walk in a random direction, hoping to find some help that can lead them to the invader's base.
Arya: Sarah...we've been walking for hours...are you sure we are heading somewhere ?
Sarah: no Arya...we are not going to somewhere we know...we are trying to find a clue where we can find their base...got it ?
Arya didn't say anything, but Sarah understood that she was just tired from walking that long.
After a long while of walking under the sun, Sarah started to feel tired too, she had to find a more efficient way to find a clue.
Sarah: I may have an idea that can help us...but I'm not guaranteeing anything.
Arya: and what's that ?
Sarah: there are a lot of trees here we need to find a tree that is big enough...I can climb it and look for anything interesting.
Arya: to be honest anything other than more walking sounds like a good idea now.
Sarah: ok then...but for now we rest here...we will look for the tree tomorrow.
The night has set, the two girls were in their hand-made beds getting ready to sleep.
Arya: hey Sarah...if you don't mind me asking...what was your mother's job in the burrow ?
Sarah: she is old...old enough to not be able to work...she is usually doesn't leave our house.
Arya: and your father ?
She stared into the ground, hesitant to say anything.
Sarah: I rather not speak about it...
Arya: oh...it's fine I understand...good night Sarah.
Sarah: good night.
The sky is now at it's brightest, the moon is at it's highest, and the night is at it's most quiet.
Sarah was having a hard time sleeping, she stayed up for a longer time than she was meant to, she finally was about to close her eyes and sleep, until she heard a close sound near their place, she immediately got up quietly and started looking around the camp, but she found nothing, she then climbed to the nearest tree she saw and scouted the area from a higher point, she saw someone running in a distance, she tried to follow them from above, but they were too fast for her to track them, she could not see much in the darkness, all that helped her to see was the light of the moonshine, but it was not enough for her to see who or what it was, the intruder escaped without leaving a trail behind it.
After a while of searching for the intruder, Sarah came back to the camp, feeling tired after doing a long night patrol, she slept instantly, she did not have much time to sleep, there were only a few hours left before the sunrise again.
After a long but uncomfortable night in their small tent, Arya woke up early in the morning, but Sarah was still asleep, Arya was confused about that, she never thought she'd wake up before her, she went outside to explore the surroundings of their camp.
A couple of hours have passed and Sarah has finally woke up, when she woke up she did not find Arya anywhere, she was in shock, what happened to her, how long was she out there, Sarah immediately climbed a tree as fast as could and started looking around, Arya's hair was bright pink, she was able to spot her easily heading back to the camp.
After Arya got back to the camp, she found Sarah glowering at her, Arya looked back at her.
Arya: oh hey Sarah...you slept like a baby today.
Sarah did not respond and kept looking at Arya.
Arya: is...is there something wrong ?
Sarah: I don't know...can you guess ?
Arya: what...are you upset because I went out without your permission mom ?
Sarah: *sigh* look I don't like this too...but you have to be more careful...last night I saw someone running away after making noise right outside this tent.
Arya: is this why you woke up late today ?
Sarah: yes I was awake late last night...this intruder will probably come back.
Arya: but what the hell would someone want with us...we literally have nothing.
Sarah: maybe not something to steal...maybe information to gather.
Arya: this does not change anything in my question.
Sarah: we are humans on the surface that escaped an invasion by things that we are now living amongst...isn't this enough for someone to spy on us ?
Arya: yeah...this makes sense.
Sarah: this is exactly why we have a tent as a shelter and not a permanent one.
Arya: well you are right about all of this...but seriously you need to stop acting like a mom.
Sarah: this is called protecting...we can't afford to lose each other...nor our families.
Arya: yeah yeah I know...but what I mean is try to enjoy all of this...it's wonderful...and waaaaaay better than living in a burrow.
Sarah: you can explore and enjoy all you want...but don't do this on your own...we desperately need to stick together...come on...we need to go.
Arya: sure.
Arya had many thoughts about Sarah, either she really wants to keep her safe, or she needs Arya for something else that would be useful for her, after all, Sarah does not seem like a person who cares about people who they just met.
