THE 8 WONDERKIDS

Chapter 4: A disaster

On the 5th of February,2215.

It was a normal day in the burrow, Arya was in her school, not paying attention to the class all was on her mind was her classmates getting to know her dad, She was excited about this day, not many people know each other ­in the burrow.

After 2 hours of school, Leo and the other parents started introducing themselves.

Leo: hello kids!

As he looked at Arya and smiled, she smiled back.

Leo: I'm Leo Warren...my daughter is right there *pointing* Arya...I'm the head scientist of this burrow.

One of the kids raised his hand.

Leo: yes?

Kid: what does it mean that you're the head scientist?

Leo: Let's simply put it here...you all eat your vegetables and drink pure water right?

The class: yes *nodding*

Leo: I'm the one of course alongside my team who figured out how you can drink pure water and harvest vegetables from the surface.

The Teacher: wow...really?

Leo: it wasn't easy of course but nothing would make us happier than to see our ideas and inventions work.

Another girl raised her hand.

Leo: yes?

Girl: are you the reason Arya is the best one in class?

The class chuckled and so did the teacher and Leo, Arya felt embarrassed as everyone looked at her, she looked down.

Leo: *chuckle* well...I wouldn't say I'm the main reason...Arya has always been my right hand in the lab...she was born to be smart...although no matter how much I can teach her that doesn't mean she doesn't need to go to school.

The teacher: as a wise one once said there is always something new to learn.

Leo: exactly.

Arya was looking down at her feet as he kept talking, feeling embarrassed yet flattered, she was smiling brightly with red cheeks, blushing.

The school day has ended, Leo decided to stay with his daughter until the end, Arya was hugging her father as they walked back home.

Until it finally happened.

Leo and the leaders of the burrow knew that one day, mutants will find them, they just didn't know when or how it was going to happen, but out of all their predictions to it, it was even worse.

The hatch In the ceiling was broken from the outside by a huge mutant, when Leo saw that he immediately made action, he told Leo to run to their house as fast as she could and to not look back no matter what and hide.

Arya: What's happening!?

Leo: Run!...I'll catch up!

Out of fear sinking in her heart, she did not have a choice but to listen, without looking back she ended up under her bed hiding.

After the hatch was opened, many mutated birds came in and started snatching people from the ground out of the burrow, by that time Leo and a group of people had managed to escape through a secret tunnel they had prepared for this moment.

After moments of concern, Arya decided to look through the window, only to see her father escaping and leaving her behind. She was desperate to call her father, but she knew that if she made a loud noise, the mutants would find her.

After almost 2 hours, the mutants left the burrow making sure no one was left unfounded.

Arya started to hear the silence, so she came out and looked at her surroundings to see that no one was left, but her.

After she had seen that she had to be separated from her father and after looking at the surroundings, she started to look around knowing that her father left her something before he escaped in the tunnel.

And she was right, her father left her a small note saying: "Hi Arya, this message is from me, I hope you understand that you had to stay behind, I could not save you, but I know that you will find a way to find me, I hope that you are the one who is reading this message, I love you Arya, see you soon."

Arya started tearing up and said to herself that she will find him, no matter what.

Arya was about to leave to the surface world, but then she thought to take another quick look before she leaves.

After searching again she was about to leave, but then she heard a sound from one of the nearby houses, something fell off, she thought that this might be someone, but when she went back to look she found no one.

After she was certain that she was the only one left, someone came out of the shadows and tried to attack her, causing Arya to fall on the ground, but after realizing who she was, the person stopped and helped her get up.

It was a girl in her school but not in the same class, she was 2 years older than her, they didn't know each other but they saw each other before.

Arya: hey...I know you...you are that girl in my school...the athlete of the school.

Arya (mind) : that explains why you are a pretty good fighter.

After that girl looked at Arya and helped her get up.

girl: yeah I saw you before too...sorry for the surprising attack, I thought you were a mute...so what is your name?

Arya: It's uh...Arya...you?

then the girl said: I'm Sarah.

Arya: oh wait...you're that girl that I take gym classes with!

Sarah: pink girl ?...your name is Arya ?

Arya: yes...I'm Arya...I really would appreciate it if you stopped calling me pink girl.

Sarah: sure...whatever.

Arya hasn't shown it, but she was so glad to see a familiar face.

Arya and Sarah were leaving their burrow searching for their parents and rescuing everyone too.

As they were leaving through the hole that was caused by a huge mutant Arya felt scared from the size of that hole, unlike Sarah, Sarah was not even a bit scared from anything on the surface, when Arya saw the bravery in Sarah's eyes she remembered why she's doing all of this and said in her mind. "whatever it takes"

As they were approaching the surface Arya and Sarah looked in the sky and trees, Arya was very amazed by what she was seeing, her eyes started to burn her a little since she has never seen the light of the day, but she got used to it pretty quickly.

Arya was so admired for her surroundings that she spent almost 15 minutes just looking around her discovering all the things that she finally can see for the first time after 13 years of dreaming about it.

But Sarah on the other hand, did not waste time looking anywhere but for the way that will lead them to the mutants home.

Sarah: come on Arya...we don't have all day...we need to find shelter.

Arya: should we go to a house or make one ?

Sarah: we will make one...because we're not going to have a normal home...it will go where we go.

Arya: does that mean we're going to have to carry it around ?

Sarah: relax...it's just the tent.

Arya: I guess we can carry a tent around.

Arya started suspecting that either she is just so dedicated to finding her mother, or this is not the first time Sarah sees the surface.
