I awoke in a cold room with high ceilings and generous windows paned in colored glass. In the corner were over two dozen full-sized forms of human bodies cast in plaster, marble, and brass. From the ceiling hung countless beautifully sculpted arms and legs of every color and size, and the walls were paneled with life-like floating faces so realistic they might have blinked their eyes. At the far end of the room was a long table strewn with a mess of metal parts, and in haphazard piles were stacks of various sketches and electrical circuitry charts. Below on the floor was a massive tangle of wires like a gigantic mechanical tumbleweed. Notes were scrawled on every surface in hurried handwriting that I could barely read.
