A Decision made by Fate

Adonis’s POV I had spent all day thinking about the woman that had dropped this lipstick on the sidewalk. Everything about her had… irked me in some strange way. I tapped the edge of the cherry colored lipstick on my desk, fumbling it around on my fingertips. Who was she? And why had the slight touch of our fingertips send my skin into a hellacious frenzy? It truly bothered me how she spoke to me, as if she didn’t need any help. Though even if she really didn’t need it, she could have just kindly rejected my offers. Why had she spoken to me in such a way? It irritated me. She irritated me. I chewed my bottom lip anxiously, twirling the makeup around in my palm. Surely she is missing this lipstick. But..It’s highly unlikely I will see her again. I think, slipping the lipstick into my pocket. For some strange reason, I couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. A woman I had never met before today had taken over my mind, she was so.. Small. Yet she was so fierce. Her voice was.. Gentle even when she was being rude. In fact, I enjoyed the enticing experience of her attitude. Not to mention- Her figure was well filled out, shaped in all the right places. Her hips.. Oh.. GOD what Am I daydreaming about?! I barely even met the woman! I slam my fist down on the desk, fighting to clear the thoughts plaguing my system. I hadn’t thought of a woman this way in years. And I planned to keep it that way, to focus on my work and day to day life. Suddenly there is a knock at my office door, pulling me away from my tangled mess of emotions. “Oh Donny!” The most annoying sing-song voice calls out. My eyes roll involuntarily, before I forcibly respond with a cold “What?” through my tightly clenched teeth. “Aww, Donny. Be nicer to me , wouldn’t want dear ol’ daddy getting upset now would we?” Emilie strolls over to my desk, walking her fingers along the table-top as she approached my tense stance. Her red curls swayed around her shoulders, framing her sharp Jaw and heavily painted cheeks. “What is it, Emilie?” I place my face in my palm, sinking into my chair with an exasperated groan. This woman exhausts me more than anything on earth. From her attitude and fake face, right down to her nasally voice.. I just couldn’t stand her. She makes me want to scream. She places a hand on her hip, using her sassy attitude to sway her hips as she moves dangerously close to me. Her deep wine colored dress shows off her chest valiantly, exposing a small piece of her breast tattoo. Vomit threatens my lips as her voice snakes it’s way into my ears. “You know..” Her voice deepens seductively as she presses her body between my knees. She leans down, using her hands to balance herself on my thighs. A slight giggle shines through her white teeth while she readjusts. “Why don’t I show you what it will be like to be married to me, Darling?” She presses her long, fake fingernail underneath my chin, forcing my face to tilt towards hers. ‘Is this her trying to be sexy?’ I thoughtlessly cringe, attempting to hold back the puke quickly rising again from my pits. I scoff loudly, accidentally spitting in her face as I break into a bitter laughter. “There isn’t much to show.” I mutter, pushing my way around her to stand up. Emilie and I had grown up together, since both of our fathers were friends in similar lines of business, we grew well acquainted over the course of our childhood. When we were 15 we fooled around a few times, and I ignorantly thought we had loved each other. Boy was I wrong. When we turned 18 she announced her engagement to my older brother, whom I was close with. Conveniently, he also inherited my fathers position in the family business shortly after. Then it hit me, she had always been a bloody gold digger. It ultimately crushed me, killing all my hope in Love at all. Eventually I moved on to focus on my studies, becoming the cold and quiet younger brother of the infamous Alexander Quinn. She stares at me in reaction to my intentional remark, with a distasteful guise, wiping away the bit of saliva that hit her cheek. “Do you really have to be so venomous?” She pouts, pretending to cry in order to receive my sympathy. Pathetic. I chuckle, straightening my suit jacket and shaking my head. “You are the only venomous one here.” I grab my phone from my desk and slip it into my pocket, before turning on my heel to escape this torturous imprisonment. “Donny!! You’re just going to leave me here like this?” She basically shrieks, stoping her heel like a child. Her behavior makes me feel as if I have to babysit her constantly. If her father wasn’t such a big asset to the company, I would have had her removed from the building before she could pull all of her usual manipulation tactics out. “Damn right.” I growl at her impending figure, as the elevator doors shut in her face. Relief floods my muscles, my shoulders relaxing reflexively. I hadn’t even noticed how annoyed I became over her b.s. this time. ‘That woman is relentless.’ I think, rubbing my sore temples in a circular motion. I sigh and readjust my hair, a sudden craving for an ice cold beverage hitting me. I could really use it. I pull my phone out of my pocket, skimming through the list of bars in the area. ‘They all seem like trash.’ I think, looking for something closer to my penthouse. It’s better to drink closer to home anyway, then I know I will make it to my own bed before I crash. A familiar bar pops up first on the search, just walking distance from my place. ‘Perfect.’ I breathe a sigh of relief as the elevator door opens, my dress shoes clacking against the tile. I dial in my driver, Harroway, to pick me up from the building’s front awning. I glance around, watching all of the different people pass by. A memory comes to mind, my parents stood side by side in this very spot. Alexander held our fathers hand, while I held our mothers. I briefly looked up at my mother, her dark straight hair pulled tightly back into a nice bun. ‘What will I be like when I grow up, father?’ My older brother, nine years old at the time, asked our father. His curious smile pushing his cheeks ear to ear. ‘Will I be like you? I want to be like you and do what you do dad!’ ‘Alexander you will be a magnificent man someday, just like me.’ He pats alexander’s fluffy brown hair in a reassuring manner, glancing my way before looking around once more. Alexander grins widely, gripping our father’s hand a bit tighter. I look up at my mother, whom brought her face down to my level. ‘Don’t worry Adonis, you will be an amazing man someday too.’ She smiles gently, her soft features warming my heart. ‘Just like Dad?’ I bounced in my fairly small dress shoes, the curls atop my head bouncing furiously with my movements and the wind. ‘Sweet Adonis, you will be your own man someday.’ She takes my cheek in her hand gingerly, kissing my cold forehead. The warmth of her breath brushing my skin.‘You will outgrow even where your father is… because you my love, have such a beautifully large heart.’ ‘Adelaide, hurry up.’ My father snaps in a growl, yanking mother’s arm forcefully while sending a scowl my way. ‘quit coddling him and get in the damn car.’ Im brought out of my mind when the car pulls up the the edge of the sidewalk, honking frivolously. The window rolls down, and there sits ol’ Harroway grinning at me with his well groomed beard. “Hey boss! Get on in!” He grins, gesturing to the backseat. I sigh, scratching the back of my neck and opening the door. I sit for a moment after closing the door, once the vehicle begins to move I look at Harroway in the mirror. ‘Where to D?’ He raises his eyebrows at me, curious for my answer. I think for a minute, should I really do drinking tonight? It never ends well. Whether it ends with lots of vomit or a complete blackout, I always regret going out. But for some reason… something is telling me to go out tonight. “Just take me to my penthouse, I will walk from there.” I wave my hand, looking out the window. “Aye aye sir.”
