There was shouting and gunshots as I attacked McCoy, feeling my fangs sink into his flesh and just pulled. I could taste blood and gunpowder, the pain of a bullet grazing me, barely registered.
Screams and shouts filled my ears but I hardly paid attention as I dragged that sorry sunuvabitch across the dirt, shaking my head vigorously. I didn't care if I ripped a chunk of his flesh off, I will be happy to do it after what he did to Wren.
What human does that shīt to a puppy of all things?!
The butt of a gun began to be smashed repeatedly into my face, a poor attempt by this bastard to get me to let go but I wouldn't. Screw him!
Loud growls and snarls left me as I shook my head again. I could taste more blood in my mouth, starting to feel the flesh start to give away to my teeth. Just a little longer...
It wasn't till a body landed on my back that jolted me out of my frenzy especially when hands began pulling at my fur and ears.
"Fenrir!" Samira's shouts finally registered in my brain. "Let him go!"
Obediently I did so, teeth releasing bloody flesh as I stood there panting, blood dripping from my maw with Samira on my back. I watch as McCoy kicked himself back across the dirt, Gavin behind him, helping haul his ass back.
"f*****g mangy mutt!" Screams the dirtbag, clutching his bleeding shoulder. He rose his gun so fast and shot at me I didn't even realize till the bullet hit my leg. I crumble down from the pain of shock, a whine leaving just as Sam was screaming my name.
McCoy made a move to fire again but his hand suddenly fell off, landing on the floor with a loud plop. There was a moment of silence as the three of us just stared at it before the asshole was screaming in pain.
"My hand! Jesus f*****g Christ! My hand!" He was screaming.
The only one who wasn't stunned was Sam and I could smell the anger roiling off her. The air grew static again.
"Shut. Up before I rip off your mouth." Sam snarls darkly.
"Just what the fück are you?!" Seems like McCoy didn't care to listen or was just too in shock. By then Gavin has called over two other Hunters who looked pale from seeing one of their own, missing his hand.
"Get him out of here before he gets killed," Gavin instructs but before they could, something white flashed, hitting McCoy in the chest and his body suddenly just dropped to the floor.
The three Hunters jumped back in shock. Gavin was the first to recover and looked exasperated.
"What the hell, Samira! He didn't mean it!" He cried out furiously. I watch as Sam give Gavin a cold look, feeling the static start charging up and even run through my fur causing it to stand up.
"You got nerves saying that after witnessing what he just did." Her voice snarls.
"You saw yourself what that werewolf did, Samira! He attacked McCoy for no reason! It was self-defense!" Argues Gavin back, pointing an accusing finger at me.
Sam took a step forward, causing Gavin to flinch. "Then McCoy kicking my puppy was self-defense too?" Instantly Gavin's eyes drop to the ground, a sign of submission and knowing he was dead wrong. "Tell me, Gavin. Was kicking my puppy self-defense??" She snarls.
After a moment or two of silence, Gavin finally shook his head. "No.." he whispered.
"I told you before," Sam continues, slowly. "That manchild is a walking bomb just waiting to go off. There is too much hatred in his heart for this job. I thought there was a strict psychological test to pass or is the Association so desperate for more Hunters that they're being lax?"
Gavin said nothing else.
Sam just snorts, arms crossing over her chest and the feel of static charging up started to lessen till it dissipates. "Get him off my property before he wakes up and causes a commotion again, Gavin. I prefer to deal with any other Hunter but you and your group from now on." She demanded.
Gavin just gave a nod as the other two came in to get McCoy. It was a pity he was still alive.
Without another word, Gavin and his men walked off with McCoy being carried and disappeared around the house.
I watch Sam collapse suddenly on her knees, startling me that I limped over to make sure she was okay. I could make out a few new white strands in her hair and it made me worry.
What was happening that was causing strands of her hair to turn white suddenly?
I whine and place my muzzle on her lap, trying to make sure she was okay. She seemed so when she gave me a strained smile and rubs my head.
"I'm fine," she whispers. "I'm fine." She said again as if to reassure me. I gave a small lick to her hand as she continues to pet my head. "What of your leg?"
I almost forgot about being shot after everything that has happened. I glance down, letting Sam gently feel the leg that was injured, holding back my growls of discomfort.
"It looks like it went through, that's good." She rubs above my leg. "Can you head inside? I'll clean it and wrap some gauze. It should heal in an hour or two since the bullet didn't seem to be made of silver." She murmurs.
I nodded, pushing myself up before remembering Wren. I completely forgot about her in my rage as I whip my head side to side, looking for the corgi pup.
As if realizing who I was looking for, Sam patted my head. "She's inside the house. Thankfully she's okay, a little shaken, but okay. I may still call the vet to come over and check her out." She sighs tiredly.
I whine again, worried about her once more. Sam just smiled at me once more and didn't fight me as I helped her get back up. It was a bit awkward as I was trying to keep my wounded leg up.
I followed her back inside the house, making my way to the front as the brunette wander off to get the things she needed to dress my wounds. Eve had wandered over, sniffing me and lying beside me. Hollow followed suit, laying his head on her rump as he laid next to me as well.
I didn't think the Dobies really cared for me as they were a bit standoffish with everyone but Sam but I guess they too, sense the pain I was in and gave me the comfort needed. My wolf was instantly relaxed in my mind and I wonder if it was because this felt like a pack mentality.
Starting to feel drowsy from how relaxed my body was, my eyes slowly pop open as I felt the vibrations on the wooden floor from Sam approaching again along with her sweet scent.
Drowsily, I watch as she sits in front of me and gently takes my injured leg, extending it out carefully and without hesitation despite the little grumbles of growls leaving my throat, mostly because the pain is irritable. My eyes close again as Sam's gentle hand rubs between my ears once more.
I just lay there, smelling medicine and antiseptic as she cleans the bullet wound. Thankfully it was a through and through or else this would've been more painful if she had to dig in there to get the lodged bullet out. The only pain I had to deal with was the stinging of the antiseptic.
Once the gauze was wrapped firmly around my leg and placed back down on the floor, my body sagged from exhaustion. The rage from earlier felt like it left my body drained.
Just as I was about to doze off, I felt something small draw close, little sniffs around my gauze, and open my eyes to see Wren. My tail gave a lazy thump as I whine and lifted my head, grabbing the back of her neck to draw her closer. She didn't fight me and let me check her out to make sure she was okay.
She smelled alright and I hope she was before nuzzling her and licking the top of her head.
It didn't take much for Wren to lay herself between my front legs and start snoozing. It amused me and I really did hope nothing internally was damaged. I felt disappointed with myself that I didn't at least rip off McCoy's foot for even kicking Wren in the first place.
Just as I was about to relax again, I felt a much large body lying next to me and turn to see it was Sam. I was a bit taken back, not having expected her to come to lay down next to me, but she curls up close, an arm drape over my back, her fingers curling into my fur. Her face was buried into my sides as she held me close. I could smell the worry rolling off her and lean over the best I could to sniff and rub the top of her head with my snout.
"I'm sorry." I heard her muffle into my fur. I tilt my head, curious why she was apologizing to me when I should've been to her.
Unable to answer her, I laid my head back down to rest, eyes slowly closing shut before I found myself drifting off into sleep with the smell of wisteria and earth tickling my nose.
I wasn't sure how long I was asleep but by the time I did wake up, it was dark aside. Realizing this, I woke up with more of a jolt as I sat up more, noticing the Dobies and Wren had moved from their spot next to me. I looked over to see Sam still curled up by me and nuzzle her gently.
A soft little mumble left her and it warmed my heart. She must've just been as tired from whatever she did today.
Magick. The Wolf whispers to me. Old magick. I wasn't sure what he meant by that but it being magick explained a lot about her.
She didn't smell like a witch nor a fae, just human to me with a unique scent. So perhaps she was on a different level of human or something. Who knows.
Standing up as quietly as I could, I slowly started to shift back into my human form, my bones groaning from going stiff to rearranging themselves. Even my organs seemed unhappy, my stomach growling in hunger from having expanded too much energy from fighting to now shifting.
I shook my legs awake and tighten the gauze on my arm before bending down to pick up Sam. I knew she was light when she would hold onto me as a crutch, but feeling how light she felt overall was a bit startling. Not calling her fat or anything, but she looks like she had decent weight on, she wasn't overall too skinny. Now holding her, she felt like someone who barely had weight on.
Trying to not think too much about it, I quickly headed upstairs to place her in her bed. I didn't want her waking up to find herself being carried by a naked male. I would die from embarrassment. Once she was tucked in, I press a kiss to the top of her head, noticing the growth of white strands in her hair and frowns.
Was this a side effect of using her magick?
Looking to see Eve there and laying down, I hesitantly reached out to rub her head. When it didn't seem she was going to snap at me, I fully rubbed between her ears, which she happily accepted.
After that, I hurried to my room to throw some clothes on since the ones I wore prior were still downstairs. Once fully dressed, I called Ray and Chief over to help me herd the remaining alpacas back into their stables. Thankfully some had the sense to go in themselves. The horses were already in their stalls though I had to separate Luke from Athos stall as he seems to invited himself to share the stall.
Good thing Athos was well-tempered or else I hate to see a draft horse try and kick a horse smaller than him.
Double checking everything was filled and fresh, I closed up their stables and then the alpacas before heading back inside to feed the pack of dogs.
Wren had started following me around as I tried my hand at prepping dinner since Sam was asleep and I thought it be nice to surprise her with dinner. I was just afraid I was going to mess up any type of schedule she may have had but hopefully she forgive me if I did.
Lasagna was tonight's choice, having thrown two cartons of lasagna into the oven to be cooked as evening was cooler than during the day.
I obliged Wren by picking her up and carrying her around like a baby once dinner was cooking, nuzzling, and baby-talking her. She seemed okay and happy but again, I was still worried it was just a facade. She was still sore around her side when I gently felt her sides, getting a small yelp. I whispered soft apologies for having caused her discomfort.
Babying her more by giving her some luncheon meat from the fridge, which she happily swallowed whole like the greedy puppy she is, I finally set her fuzz butt down to make the garlic bread once I spotted the package of french bread.
Once prepped and toss in the oven, I picked up Wren once more, who struggled a bit this time around but settles down as I rub her back once settle on the couch with the tv on low. The smell of butter and garlic filled my nose soon after, making my mouth salivate at the smell.
It wasn't soon after I started smelling toast bread that I set Wren down before getting up to pull out the bread. Perhaps I was hungry but I have never seen anything look so scrumptious and couldn't wait to tear off a piece, playing hot potato while blowing in it to cool off the toasted bread quickly before biting into it, making happy noises at the taste.
Garlic bread was always awesome.
I had to wait a little longer for the lasagna, which was fine but I had to make more garlic bread, after finishing off one half of the loaf.
Soon I found myself in front of the TV with a plate of a large heaping helping of lasagna, another half loaf of garlic bread, just happily munching away as I watch some movies about cowboys and aliens.
Once the movie was over and my food devoured that I cleaned up my mess. With the dishes washed and set aside to dry, I put the puppies away in their crate after one last call for a bathroom break and made sure everything was locked up before heading upstairs.
I stopped by Sam's room to see her still asleep. I was about to turn and head to my room but found myself not wanting to leave her alone tonight. My wolf egged me to stay as well, clearly wishing to be close as well.
Biting my lower lip, I stripped down and shifted back into my wolf form, and jumped up onto her bed, settling down next to her. Sam had turned over to nuzzle up to me instantly, making me freeze, thinking she was awake. Once hearing her soft sleepy sighs, I relaxed and curl up next to her, slipping off to sleep soon after.
