Chapter 6

I've always been very practical in a world where survival was so difficult. Especially when you're own your own. I had to learn how to think from my head and not from my heart. Today started off okay, but it all changed when Elijah left my side. I felt like someone was watching me, so I looked around the mall.

I saw two guys in a corner having a conversation, but I noticed that they were watching me. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and I called Elijah as I started walking. "Help." I knew that he understood that I needed him. I turned to look for the guys, and I saw them following me. "Elijah."

I looked back again. "I'm on my way." I saw them catching up to me, so I started running. I kept looking back to see where they were, and I ran into a wall. When I looked up, I saw Angelo, and he caught me before I fell.

"Thank you." He nods before he pushed me behind him.

I couldn't see Elijah, but I heard him say, "Who sent you?"

I heard one guy that was chasing me say, "Fernando."

Elijah says, "Tell your boss to keep trying."

I heard someone laugh before the person says, "Did you really think we came here alone?" When I looked around I saw a bunch of guys come out of the empty stores and they surrounded us.

Elijah laughs and says, "Did you really think we came here alone?" As soon as he says that, I saw all the guys fall to the ground.

When I looked at Elijah, I saw another man next to him. "Did they really think you won't have allies to help you out?"

Elijah started laughing before he turned back to Fernando's men. "Give your boss my message." I watched as they ran away scared and Elijah looked at me. I walked over to him and he checked my body to see if I'm okay.

"I'm fine, I ran into Angelo before they could get to me." He pulled me into his arms before he turned to look at the other guy.

I looked at Liam. "Hey, Mel."

"Hi Liam, where's Faith?"

I heard her laugh before I saw her. "Right here." When she walked over I met her halfway.

I hugged her, and she says, "I miss you too." When she let go of me she walked over to Angelo.

I watched as he hugged her. "When is the wedding?"

She laughs as she hugs him back. "Next week." Then she pulled away and put her hands on her hips. "You better be there and tell your father too."

He laughs and says, "I will."

"You're getting married, and you didn't invite me."

Before she can say anything, Elijah cuts in. "Actually, she did, your invitation showed up right after we drugged you." He pulled an envelope out of his jacket, and he gave it to me.

"I'm just going to forget you ever drugged me and let it go." He started laughing, and I hit him on his chest. "It's not funny."

He sighs and says, "Sorry."

"I've always hated shopping and today made me hate it even more. Can we go back to your house now?"

He looked at me. "Yes." We followed him out of the mall, and I followed him to his car. "Are you sure you're okay?"

"No, I'm not. I just got chased through the mall by people who want to kill me. Whatever my father did got him killed and I have a feeling that it won't stop after they kill me. My mother is probably in danger too." When we got to his house, we went out back to the pool.

I sat down next to him. "We need to put some men outside of Melody's mother’s house."

Angelo laughs and says, "You don't have to worry about her."

"Why?"

He looks at me. "My father always has men looking out for her."

"Who's your father?"

I looked at him as he says, "Vincenzo De Santos."

"Oh. Well, never mind then."

Elijah looked at me. "You met him already?"

"A few times. When I was younger, he would always come over to the house. I asked my mom about him one time and she told me they're friends."

Angelo laughs harder this time. "Yes, they are friends, but my father would like to be more than that." I felt Elijah put his hand on my thigh and I saw Faith looking at me.

She smiles and says, "Is there something going on between you two?"

"No."

Elijah cut in and says, "We are just friends, but she keeps me sane."

"How do I do that?"

He looks at me, and he hesitates for a few minutes. "I can't tell you that." I didn't bother responding to him and I tried to move his hand off my thigh. I gave up when he tried to grab my hand.

Angelo looked at me and says, "Are you still afraid of me?"

"I am, but it's going away slowly."

Elijah cuts in and says, "Can I talk to Liam and Angelo alone?" Faith took my hand, and we walked over to the pool.

She looked at me, and I looked at the water. "I think Elijah likes you."

"Really, I don't see it."

She started laughing, and she sat down. I sat down next to her and we put our feet into the pool. "Does he always touch you like that or does he keep his hands to himself?"

"He does, but I never thought too much into it. Not until he started kissing me. But even then, it's like he’s another person." I looked at her, and she smiled at me. "We even sleep in the same bed now."

She smiles as she says, "Really." I nod at her. "And you don't think he likes you."

"No, I don't."

She sighs as she turns to me. "Well I do, and I wanted to ask you a question." I turned to her. "Would you like to be my maid of honor?"

"I would love to, but isn't it a little too late to ask that question?"

She laughs and says, "It is, but I didn't want to ask anyone else. You don't even have to do anything, other than trying on your dress."

"It would be my pleasure to be your maid of honor and I can't wait to see your dress."

She looks down at her hands. "I can't wait for Liam to see what I bought to wear under my dress."

"Wait, did you and Liam?"

I watched as she moved her hair out of her face. "Yes, we did, and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. It got better every time, but we will wait until after we get married to continue making love." I looked at her. "His words, not mine."

"Well, maybe he had something special planned for you."

She sighs and says, "Maybe." Before I can say anything, Elijah called us back over to them. "Did you give yours up yet?"

"No, please don't bring that up in front of the guys."

She was quiet until we sat down. "Why not it will be funny?"

"No, it won't."

Elijah looked at us. "What are you two talking about?" Before anyone can say anything, the door opens, and an older man walks over to us. "Melody I want you to meet my father Antonio Luciano. Dad meet Melody Caitlyn Rose."

"It's nice to meet you Mr. Luciano."

I put my hand in his. "It's nice to meet you too, Ms. Rose." He brought my hand up to his lips, and he kissed it.

I heard laughter from the door and we watched as Gemma walked over to us. "She's beautiful, isn't she?"

Antonio pulled her into his arms. "I wouldn't use that word when you're in the room."

She laughs and says, "Always a charmer." Then she looked at me. "When you're with a Luciano, you always expect that from them."

Before I can say anything, Antonio says, "So Ms. Rose, why don't you tell us a little about yourself."

"Please call me Melody and what would you like to know?"

He nods at me. "Did you start Rose Magazine yourself?"

"Yes, I did. My mother and father wanted to help me out. But I didn't want their help."

He looks interested, and I saw him rub his chin. "Why? Wouldn't it have been easier if you've taken their help?"

"It would have, but I wanted to do it on my own and they understood that. I started working in small magazines, and then I got some major jobs. While I did that I worked on opening my company and when I finally got it set up, I quit my job. I used all the money that I earned from working to start my business and I built it up to where it is today."

He smiles and says, "Hard work and success."

"I like to think, that was all it took to get to where I am now."

I watched as he hesitated for a moment. "I'm sorry about what happened to your father."

"It's okay. I don't think I'll be able to get over his death right now. But I know that he wouldn't want me to sit around crying all day long."

Gemma laughs and says, "Smart and beautiful." She looked at Antonio as he nods at her. Then she looked at Elijah. "She's a keeper."

Elijah sighs and says, "Mom."

She cuts him off. "Lunch is ready." Faith wrapped her arms around mine as we followed Gemma into the house.
