Chapter 15

Half an hour later, we walked into the house and went to eat lunch. Vincenzo and Angelo joined us, but they kept joking around. Even though Marissa is the other woman in this house, I felt alone. But I am surrounded by a bunch of men. After we finished eating, I followed the guys down to the gym and I sat down on the bench. Dominic sat down next to me. "So, Mel, why don't you tell me a little about yourself?" "What would you like to know?" He laughs and says, "Everything. How old are you?" "I am 24. How old are you?" When he smiled, it turned me on. "I'm 28. What is your favorite color?" "Violet. What's yours?" I looked at him. "Blue." I turned to face him as I put my leg over on the other side of the bench. He looked down, and I saw him playing with a ring. "Married?" He sighs and says, "I was but she left me a few months ago." "She found out about all of this?" He nods at me. "Not every woman will leave because of your lifestyle, you just have to find the right one." He smiles as he looked at me. "I think Elijah found his match." "We'll never know." He took my hand. "I can see how he looks at you. Even now he can't keep his eyes away. Did he tell you how he feels?" "He told me he loves me."  I looked at him, and I looked at our hands. "Do you love him?" "Yes." He moves closer, so our knees are touching. "Are you willing to move away from your family to live with him?" "As long as I get to see my mother then, yes, I will do anything for him. I've been feeling lonely for quite a while now and when he came into my life, all of that changed." He smiles, and says, "So, I guess that means I'm getting friend zoned?" Before I can say anything, Elijah says, "You are definitely in the friend zone." He sat down behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist as he pulled me against him. "What did I miss?" "We were just getting to know each other." I looked over at Angelo and Vincenzo and I saw them fighting each other. "So, who will win?" Elijah laughs, and I looked at him. "Vincenzo thought Angelo everything that he knows so my best bet would be him." I looked at Dominic as he says, "I vote for Vincenzo too." Angelo cuts in and says, "What am I pork chop?" "I'll vote for you, so don't let me down." He smiles at me before he went back to fighting his father. Vincenzo started laughing as he says, "You really want to vote for my son, Melody." He looks over at me, and I nod at him. "Well, you can watch him lose then." They went back to fighting and Angelo started getting angry every time Vincenzo provoked him. "Angelo ignore him. You know that you are good at what you do otherwise you wouldn't have gotten the name Fantasma. Isn't that what you told me when we first met." Elijah whispers, "What are you doing?" "Helping him out." He sighs and puts his chin on my head. "Why?" "I'm the only one voting for him, so I'm helping him build up his confidence. Vincenzo is tearing him down, so why not work against him?" I looked back at him and his eyes met mine. I got lost in his eyes for a few minutes when I heard tapping. We looked over at Vincenzo and Angelo. Angelo had the advantage now, and I thought he would have broken his father's hand. When he let go he came over to me. "Thank you." "You're welcome. Wait, what are you thanking me for?" He laughs and says, "That was the first time I ever beat my father and it was because of you." My jaw dropped, and I heard Vincenzo laughing. Then he says, "Melody you are one special woman and if I wasn't in love with your mother, I would take you from Elijah." "No offense, but you're not my type. Wait, did you say that you're in love with my mother?" He looked at me, but he says nothing. "How long?" He sighs and says, "From the moment I met her. It was a few days after you were born." "24 years." He nods at me. "That's why you kept coming over when I was a kid." He picked up a towel and looked at me. "Yes, it was the only way I could keep her in my life. I've been looking out for her ever since." I looked at him as he wiped his hair with the towel. "You should tell her how you feel." He laughs and says, "She just lost her husband. I don't think she'll want to hear that right now." "I didn't mean right now." Before anyone can say anything, my phone started ringing. I put my hand in my pocket and pulled out my phone. My hand touched Elijah's p***s, and he groaned. "Sorry." I looked at my phone, and I saw my Mom calling. "Mom, what's wrong?" She whispers, "Someone is in the house." "What? Where are you?" She continues to whisper, "I'm in the safe room." I looked at Vincenzo as he pulled out his phone. "What should I do?" "Just stay inside the room." She sighs, and says, "Why would someone be in the house?" Before I can say anything, I heard a loud banging noise, and she started screaming. "Mom." The line cut off after that and I tried calling her back. "It keeps going to voicemail." I looked at Vincenzo as he says, "My men are at the house now." Elijah rubbed my shoulders. "She'll be fine." "No, she won't. If they didn't get there until now, then she won't be fine." Vincenzo's phone started ringing, and I watched as he threw the phone against the wall. "They killed her." He looked at me, and I saw the anger in his eyes. "My men found your mother's body in the living room. They trashed the entire house, and they broke into the safe room." I felt like I couldn't breathe, my heart started hurting and I started feeling dizzy. "I can't breathe." Elijah tried to touch me, but I moved away from him. My phone slipped out of my hand and I held onto the wall as my head started spinning. "Call Kevin." I heard someone talking on the phone, and then I heard footsteps. I saw Kevin run over to me and he says, "Melody look at me." I looked at him. "Breathe." I followed his breathing, and I started feeling better. "What happened?" "My Mom." I continued breathing with him and he helped me sit down on the floor. "She's dead." I started crying now, and he pulled me into his arms. "It hurts." He held onto me as I started crying more. "I'm sorry Mel." He put his chin on my head. "Are you feeling better?" "My chest hurts." I kept taking deep breaths while I tried to slow my heartbeat. When I looked at Kevin, he gave me a napkin. I wiped my eyes and blew my nose before I looked at him. He looks at me. "Are you hungry?" "No." He sighs and says, "Melody, you need to eat something." "Fine." I followed him out the room, up the stairs, through the hall and to the kitchen. When we got there, I saw that it is full. I looked at Kevin, and he looked at Elijah. Elijah looks at me. "We can eat in my office." He walked over to one maid and talked to her before he came back over to us. "The food will be ready in a few minutes." I looked down at my hands, and I tried to keep my breathing normal. I grabbed onto Kevin's arm when I couldn't breathe again. He pulled me out of the kitchen and down the hall to where Elijah's office is. We stood outside the door while he says, "Breathe Mel." I followed his breathing, and I felt better again. "Do you want to go see a doctor?" "No." He sighs, and I looked at him. "You can't just shut off your emotions, Melody." "I wasn't planning to, but now that you mentioned it." He grabbed my hand, and I heard him grind his teeth. "Don't you dare do that? I need you as much as you need me." My eyes got watery again, and I sat down on the floor. He sat down next to me and I put my head on his shoulder. "I don't know how to deal with the pain anymore. It comes, and it goes. I feel like my heart will burst in two any minute now and it hurts to breathe." He sighs, and says, "Melody, I will not try to tell you that the pain will get easier. I don't know what it's like to lose both parents at the same time. But I will tell you you have a lot of shoulders to lean on. Elijah, Faith, Liam, Vincenzo, Angelo, Dominic, Marissa and I will always be here when you need us. Don't shut us out and don't let the pain consume you." I saw Elijah, Vincenzo, Angelo and Dominic walking over to us with containers in their hands. Elijah looks at me. "Can we join you?" I nod at them, and they sat down around me. Elijah gave me a container and a spoon as he sat down next to me. I saw Angelo give Kevin one as well and we all started eating. We sat quietly for a few minutes until Vincenzo says, "I'm sorry that I couldn't protect your mother Melody." "I don't blame you. I knew from the beginning that my life would fall apart. If they don't get what they want, they will take everyone I love from me. The only people left on that list is Kevin, Marissa and the twins." Kevin looks at me. "I can protect myself and my family." "No, you can't." I saw his jaw drop and before he can say anything, I stopped him. "I don't want to hear your lame ass excuse. I know that you will give your life up to save us and I can't lose you too." Elijah cuts in, and I looked at him. "I will not involve him in this fight." When Kevin was about to protest, he stopped him. "I know that you are the best, but Melody needs you more than I do. I will not risk you getting hurt or I may lose her." Kevin sighs and says, "Fine. But I'm only staying away from the fight because I know that if she shuts off her emotions this time, we may never get her back." "You're talking about me like I'm not even here." Kevin looks at me. "Technically, you aren't." I was about to say something, but he cut me off. "Where's your mind right now?" I went back to eating my food without answering his question. "Exactly." After we finished eating, we sat here quietly.
