The Betrayal

Alexander slammed Daniel against the wall. “You told him?” Daniel didn’t resist. “I had no choice.” “You always have a choice.” “Not when he controls your family.” Alexander’s jaw tightened. Emily stepped closer. “Why would Jonathan want Victoria dead?” Daniel looked at her. “Because Victoria found the accounts.” “What accounts?” “The offshore accounts.” Alexander released him. Daniel straightened his jacket. “Your company has been used to move billions.” Alexander’s expression became dark. “By whom?” “Jonathan.” “Why?” “To take control of Blackwood Technologies.” Emily shook her head. “But Alexander already owns the company.” “Not legally.” Daniel looked at him. “Your grandfather’s trust has conditions.” Alexander’s eyes narrowed. “The marriage.” “Yes.” “If you marry, you inherit everything.” “Yes.” “And if I die before the transfer?” “Jonathan becomes controlling beneficiary.” Emily understood. “He needs Alexander dead.” Daniel nodded. “And Victoria knew.” Alexander stared at him. “Why did you sabotage my relationships?” Daniel looked ashamed. “Because Jonathan told me if you married anyone outside the family, he would kill her.” Emily’s stomach tightened. “You pushed women away.” “Yes.” “You made Alexander think they were betraying him.” “Yes.” “You destroyed his relationships.” “I thought I was protecting him.” Alexander laughed bitterly. “You were protecting yourself.” Daniel lowered his head. “I loved you.” Silence. Emily looked at Alexander. Daniel continued. “I’ve loved you for years.” Alexander stared at him. “You were my assistant.” “I know.” “You lied to me.” “I know.” “You manipulated my life.” “I know.” Daniel’s voice cracked. “I was terrified of losing you.” Emily looked away. The love triangle wasn’t romantic. It was tragic. Daniel had allowed his obsession to become a weapon. Alexander turned toward the door. “Where is Jonathan?” Daniel shook his head. “I don’t know.” “Find him.” “He’s already gone.” Alexander looked at Emily. “Then we make him come to us.” That evening, Alexander called a press conference. Emily stood beside him. The entire country was watching. Cameras flashed. Reporters shouted questions. “Mr. Blackwood, is it true your company is under investigation?” “Is your wife involved?” “Who is your wife really?” Alexander stepped toward the microphones. “My wife is not the person the media believes she is.” Emily’s heart stopped. He continued. “She entered this marriage under extraordinary circumstances.” A reporter shouted: “Are you saying she lied?” Alexander looked at Emily. “Yes.” The room exploded. Emily stared at him. He knew the truth. He was exposing her. Then he took her hand. “But she lied because someone was trying to kill her.” Silence. Alexander continued. “My wife is Emily Carter.” Gasps filled the room. Emily felt tears fill her eyes. He could have destroyed her. Instead, he had protected her. Alexander looked at the cameras. “Emily Carter was forced into a contract marriage after her twin sister died under suspicious circumstances.” A reporter asked: “Did you know?” “I suspected.” “Why did you marry her?” Alexander’s gaze moved toward Emily. “Because by the time I discovered the truth, I had already fallen in love with her.” Emily’s breath caught. The room erupted. Alexander continued. “Anyone who believes they can hurt my wife should understand something.” His voice became cold. “They are no longer dealing with Emily Carter.” He paused. “They are dealing with me.” Behind the cameras, Daniel received a message. His face changed. He approached Alexander. “Sir.” “What?” “We found Jonathan.” “Where?” Daniel handed him a phone. A live video appeared. Jonathan stood in an underground facility. Beside him was a woman. Emily’s blood ran cold. Victoria. She was alive. Her sister looked directly into the camera. And then Jonathan smiled. “You wanted your sister.” He turned toward Emily. “Come get her.” The video ended. Emily couldn’t breathe. Victoria was alive. Her twin had survived.
