"Charlie," Damien mummered against my hair, waking me up from the fitful sleep I'd fallen into. We had fallen asleep sleeping apart from each other, so I was confused why he was spooning me like this now. I fidgeted slightly, but he tightened his grip on me. "Hmm?" I groaned, keeping my eyes shut because I wanted to get a few more minutes, at least, because I was exhausted. "Get up, slowly. Act like you're going to go to the bathroom," he whispered, and I realized why he had his arms wrapped around me so tightly. The smell hit me like a punch to the face. I had to hold back a gag. It was the smell of rotting flesh. How had I not smelled it before? It was almost overwhelming and my stomach was churning.
