Kira's POV The world comes back to me in pieces. First, there's the pain in my shoulder, sharp and hot like someone's holding a branding iron to my skin. Then there's the bumping and swaying that makes my stomach want to empty itself all over whatever I'm lying on. "She's waking up," someone says. The voice sounds far away, like I'm hearing it through water. I try to open my eyes, but the light hurts. Everything hurts. My whole body feels like it's been put through a blender. "Kira, can you hear me?" The voice is closer now. Familiar. Dr. Morrison. "Yeah," I croak, and damn, my throat feels like sandpaper. "Where... where am I?" "Medical van.
