Aurora’s POV It was nice having my own wolf back, but it still made me wonder how he had gotten to my wolf. Of all things why did he want my wolf? I was in a coma for so long what good would my wolf be to anyone. It had been two weeks since the spell that gave me Ren back, but she was still so quiet. She felt sad that she didn’t know who she was, and our grief was still on the forefront of our mind. We were alone. Of course, I had had Abram and we were home, but he had his children and grandchildren. The twins, and Ky’s little boy. He had Margret. I had nothing but regret and grief to keep me warm at night. And questions. So many questions. What would a warlock do with a wolf? There was no real way to implant a wolf into someone else. Or at least there used to not be. From what little research I had done, it only worked because the girl was a wolf herself. Her body was made to shift into a wolf, shifting would kill a human or even a warlock. Was I just an experiment? Payback for standing by and watching Dylan do all those horrific things to the innocent. I sighed and leaned back in the large chair. Spending time in the vast library used to calm me down, but now it only seemed to stress me out further. I couldn’t find what I wanted, but our books mostly pertained to wolf history and mythology. I was shocked to find human books, but Abram had sent his children to the human school rather than the pack school. It made Deacon quite the Alpha and businessman as he learned how to make things mutually beneficial to both species. The look that laid open in front of me seemed to glare. It was one of the few books on witchcraft that we had. Dark magic. Things such as blood spells, mind control, and love spells. I flipped through the pages again and again, hoping anything would come up. After the fifth time looking at the book, I noticed the numbers were off. That’s not off. The pages are missing. Ren whispered. Deep in the binding there was a ragged edge of a page. What would a warlock need this book for? Mind control, love spells, and blood spells were all common in dark magic books. Those were basic spells. Things a novice could do. I grabbed the other books, each book was missing four pages. A spell only took two. Abram, what’s the oldest spell book you have? It took him a moment, but he came into the library. In the back of a shelf that held the human religion books, he pulled a large black book. This wasn’t a study book, it was an actual grimoire. A witch’s spell book. This book looked to be old. Very very old. “It belonged to a witch during the Trials. Our great great great grandfather was an inquisitor, but when he saw that this particular witch was not evil he allowed her to stay in the pack. While here, she helped our harvest. That was how we got the name Blue Harvest. It was on the Blue Moon that Icharis found her.” “You said she wasn’t evil. What kind of magic did she use?” He looked down at me, “Soul magic. She gave her life to those who helped us, her soul is actually a part of our land. Or so that’s what the story says.” I flipped through the book. A lot of things about souls, until she began writing about wolves. Back then, wolves came at 13, but they were constantly in battle, or sick. If wolves didn’t come earlier, there wouldn’t be wolves. There was one passage that suck out to the most. I finally found my love. The one that our Goddess has given for me. We have married and I now feel the small soul growing inside my womb. He will be named, Jeremiah. I feel the wolf inside this child. It will be strong and will protect us from all enemies. I fear that there is an enemy lurking in the shadows. I kept reading. More about enemies, more spells. It wasn’t until the final passage came about that it all clicked. Markus has killed my Love, my Jeremiah, and in turn I shall die soon too. The only thing holding me together is my magic, but that will in time fade. Hopefully soon. In an attempt to gain a wolf, he has killed my pack, my home, and will not stop until he succeeds. I have trapped him in a deep sleep. I do not know how much longer the spell will last. It has taken everything I have, and now I lay with my Love and my son. Joined by the Goddess, we will be forever. Markus wanted a wolf. Leon’s POV I stared at Aurora. I hadn’t seen her in years. Not that I wanted to. She wasn’t the cause of the experiments, but she didn’t stop them either. She just sat back and watched as her mate tortured us. It took Delilah getting pregnant for her to step up and fight back. I never saw her again after our wolves came. She just told us about the spell book/journal from some old ass witch. Apparently Markus was attempting to transplant wolves. Stupid magic. I was tired of this already. My fingers ran through Reina’s soft hair, and I smiled. She was so beautiful. I loved everything about her. She had taken real time to think about what her parents had done and was on her way to forgiving them. They loved her. Kane was less forgiving, but Reina always seemed to be able to calm him down. Delilah read the passage again out loud for the fourth time. It wouldn’t change anything. We now knew what the douchebag was out to do, it still didn’t explain why he wanted a wolf so bad. If he was powerful enough to kill the Alpha, his witch Luna and the heir, having a wolf would only hinder his power, right? James had come back with two of his boys, Reese and Sebastian, I think. The quads were so hard to tell apart. They all looked like one of their brothers. Only Reese and Scarlett looked like Brea. “No. It wouldn’t hinder his power, it would actually make him an Alpha.” James spoke out loud to the thoughts in my head. I hated that he could do that. “If he wanted to be Alpha, then wouldn’t he have been since he killed what’s his face?” I asked out loud and signed to keep Reina in the loop. James just shrugged, “He’s not a wolf. No one would respect him. Fear isn’t the same as respect.” Phoenix poofed out of thin air, his hair was a mess, and his eyes a deep burnt orange rather than the normal neon color. The last time I saw him he looked like a CEO, now he looked like a hobo. It had only been two days, what the hell happened? “Markus, he has gained massive amounts of power. He attacked our council. Here next.” He gasped out before crumpling on the ground. That put Athena in a rage. She started barking orders, and we all jumped to follow. James gathered his boys and led us all to a safe room. Aurora hadn’t been able to shift even though she got her wolf back, not that it mattered. She hadn’t fought in over 20 years. I pulled Reina into me and kissed her forehead. Please stay here, Ginger. I had a feeling of what she would say but when her face turned bright red and her eyes flashed brightly, I knew exactly what was coming. I’m not some weak she-wolf who can’t defend her family, Leon. I’m coming. Baby, he- HE did this to me! To us, and you just expect me to sit tight and watch as my family is attacked by some lunatic warlock. f**k you. She stormed out of the room. James smiled as he told the boys to stay in the room. Aurora had already tucked them into her arms. I watched as my mate walked down the hallway and looked both ways before deciding to go to the left, which led to the banquet hall. I sighed and followed after her. When I caught her, all of the glass in the room shattered, and a screeched vibrated off the walls. I pulled Reina into my arms and tried to find the danger. The painting of Gabriel began to c***k, following down the walls to the floor. I rushed Reina out, the cracks following us as we ran through the packhouse till we made it to the gardens. In the middle, a man dressed in a simple white shirt and gray slacks smiled and gave a creepy wave. I felt Reina tense as she saw him. “Iggy?” She signed. The man nodded, “But better. See Reina, when you rejected me, I was hurt. I wanted you to hurt just as much.” She titled her head. I translated it for her before I pushed her behind me, “What do you want?” “Well, at first I wanted her to suffer, and I enjoyed it. Really, that rejection was- “He kissed his fingers “beautiful. I sent some whispers to her wolf, well… Aurora’s wolf rather. I don’t really understand that part. When she went home, I watched as she wander the pack alone. Just like I was forced to do.” He glared at me. “You aren’t my mate.” She signed. “Leon is. I told you I wanted to be with my mate.” “I COULD HAVE BEEN! I could have loved you. I did love you. For years. But you wanted that mutt. So, I took your ability to love anyone except me. I killed so many wolves looking for the perfect one. One worthy of a female Alpha. It took me two years but I finally found one. Come with me and we can start our lives together. Then we can take over his pack after you’ve killed anyone who goes against us. I’ll make you strong. Stronger than the True Alpha. It’s nothing but magic that gives her the power.” “I don’t want her power. I want my mate.” Reina signed. “You’ll want it after I kill that bastard of a failed experiment.” Iggy pointed to me. “Ever wonder why only 10 pups I’m the country got sick in the exact same way?” It was a common question, but we had given up on finding answers. s**t happened even to werewolves. Especially to werewolf pups. They were just a little less vulnerable than a human adult. Colds, flu, and even broken bones happened. Now this sick son of a b***h was telling us, that we were chosen? No. It was just a fluke. Iggy smirked at me as he saw the gears in my head turning, “Are you sure? Notice that Rowan hasn’t found his mate. The only person he seems attached too is his sister. You only found your mate because of something my uncle didn’t expect. No one could have known that that b***h was the True Alpha.” I snarled at him. No one disrespected my Alpha like that. F “None of you were supposed to find bonds. All of you were supposed to be bound to us. We have numbers.” Reina growled, her hands dug into my arms, rather her claws did. She was pissed. Pure rage flowed through the bond as she began to shift. Her red fur spread over her body, and her shift came faster than any I had ever seen. Her wolf snarled as she stared at the warlock in front of us. I wrapped my arm around her neck and nuzzled into her. Baby, it’s okay. We’re here together. I love you, Reina. I kissed her wet nose. Emerald huffed. I want to kill him. I know, sweetheart. There was a slight gagging noise behind us. Iggy was leaned over making a heaving noise. The asshole. When he finally stood to his full height, he had dark brown eyes. His hands were glowing bright purple. The house was shaking as he looked at it. I heard the first rumble of wall fall along with the screams. He was taking out the house. The house with her family. My pack. He would take out everyone that Reina cared about. I didn’t feel my bones breaking as I shifted into my wolf. Kane charged at the warlock snapping at his hands, a metallic liquid fill our mouth. I wanted to spit it out, but instead I gripped his hands harder. His screams made me oddly satisfied, but the house continued to shake. I pulled his hands from his wrists and clawed at his chest. The rumbled stopped as the blood spewed from his chest. Reina snarled just as I felt something pierced my side. Kane snapped, I knew how much Reina wanted to kill the warlock, but it was Kane’s first instinct. I chomped the first thing I could get my teeth on. It just so happens that it was his face. I bit down, the screams stopped, but my body grew so weak so fast. Reina nipped at my tail, before she pulled me from the body. He wasn’t dead, but close enough. White spots filled my vision as I slowly shifted back to my human from, the fire hot pain from my side crippled me as I fell to the ground. Baby, I can’t.. I can’t feel my legs. I mind linked her. My body was weak and a chill set through my body. Reina released a howl, one filled with sorrow and fear. I kept my eyes on her as voices filled the air around us. The feel of our bond fading sent shivers down my spine, more so than the chill of blood loss. My eyes blinked a few times before I sank into darkness.
