Leon’s POV
I got out of the shower and changed into the joggers and sweatshirt Deacon had given me. When I walked out of the bathroom they had fixed my doors, and even pulled in a couch and set up a huge TV. There were shots of whiskey lined on the table along with huge burritos, nachos and six pizzas. Someone had changed the sheets on my bed but made sure to put Reina’s pillow back exactly where it was before.
“What the hell is this?”
“Well, you refuse to leave the room and your mom said you haven’t eaten in days. So, we brought the food to you. The shots are… well it’s shots. It’ll either help or hurt.” Deacon said.
I snorted. It took a lot to get wolves drunk. I hoped they brought enough.
“We brought plenty.” James chuckled. He tilted his head as he looked at me, “Kane’s not talking is he?”
I shook my head, “Not a word since…” I swallowed and looked down. I hadn’t spoken her name since I rejected her. Anytime I would try the pain would flash through my chest again and I would only want to go back into my bed and hole away.
James nodded. “He’s there, but I think he’s just really hurt. It’s harder on him than it is you.”
I groaned. I didn’t want his pain if this was harder for him. I felt so bad. I should have followed my first instinct and rejected her after Emerald told me I would be better suited to f**k a tree than mate her. I shouldn’t have pushed any of us into this. I shook my head and sat on the couch. I grabbed one of the burritos. It was had steak, rice, queso and some leafy thing. It should have been good, but it tasted like nothing.
I could feel the guys watching me eat. I sped up, knowing that’s what they were expecting. A wolf that hadn’t eaten in days should have eaten it in two bites. So, I did. Then grabbed a huge plate of nachos. I ate them as quickly as I could before grabbing a whole pizza and guzzling it down too. I needed the food, but it didn’t satisfy like it should have. I took the shots and leaned back hoping that would get their eyes off me.
Axel snorted while he ate, “That was impressive. Didn’t know we had an actor in our midst. I’m thinking Morris Chestnut, or like Taye Diggs.”
I rolled my eyes. “I ate alright. Isn’t that the whole point of this?” I motioned to the table of food before going to my friends.
“No. The point is to get you to realize that the world hasn’t stopped turning just because she’s gone. You’ll get another mate, but your pack deserves their Alpha at his best. If you can’t be that, then it’s time to step down.” James said. He was too damned rational.
“When Brea was taken, did your world stop moving?” I challenged. I knew this was his sore spot.
He growled before taking a deep breath, “It’s not the same, Leon and you know it. She was already mated and marked when Alexander took her. When he shot her, hell yes my world stopped? I thought my mate was dead. If it weren’t for Mom, I’m not sure how I would have taken care of Reese.”
“Low blow.” Deacon muttered.
I glared at him. “What about Delilah, when she left with Dylan did your world stop?”
He shrugged, “No. Did it f*****g suck? Yes, absolutely. But she too was mated and marked.”
I grumbled. None of them could understand what I was going through. My mate’s wolf rejected me, for months. And I just took it. I did everything I could, but she refused. I had put my own wolf’s life on the line and here they all sit judging me.
“We’re not judging you, Leon.” James spoke.
“Did you know it took me two months to mate and mark Lilah?” Deacon asked.
I shook my head. She never spoke about it.
“I had to wait three months to mark Brea, then another two months to mate her.” James said.
Well duh when she found her way to his pack she was pregnant. Marking her so close to having a pup would put her in heat which could kill her, then he waited too long to mate her, and she could have died anyway.
“I marked Lacy the night I met her. I saw her and was instantly in love. She grew up in Blue Harvest and they’re firm believers in the bond, so she didn’t resist me at all. Her wolf on the other hand… she wasn’t so happy with Boston showing his dominance. Lacy’s strong, being a Gamma’s daughter. She didn’t need me to protect her, and the next morning I found that out quickly. Cally had my balls in a vice, literally and told me that just because we were mates didn’t make her my property, she would do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted.” Axel laughed. “Even now with the twins, she isn’t afraid to grab me by the balls and tell me what’s what.”
I chuckled. I had met Lacy; she didn’t seem to be the no nonsense type. I figured that would be more Delilah.
“Man, Athena hate it when Chase puts our scent on her! Once she purposely rubbed against my dad just to piss him off. Ever seen an Alpha being told no when his mate is in heat? Cause that s**t sucks.” Deacon threw back a shot.
“Lei told me if I got her pregnant again in the next two years, she’s cutting off my d**k herself. Called it a homemade vasectomy.” James laughed.
I couldn’t help but laugh at that. Poor Brea had six pups within a year. She had her heat and got pregnant with Reese their oldest, then almost a year later she had another, snapped Alexander’s neck during her heat and got pregnant with the quintuplets. I wouldn’t blame her for making James getting snipped.
“She-wolves are a pain in the ass.” Axel held up his shot in a cheer.
I grabbed another one and downed it. She-wolves were a pain in the ass, but they were worth every minute.
