By the time he got back to the cabin, Jared was no longer shivering and had advanced to shaking. The temperature had dropped faster than he"d expected. When he"d left his place earlier, he hadn"t planned to be gone so long. Next time he would be better prepared.
Inside the cabin, he struggled to set and light a fire. Part of the problem was that he was shaking so hard the wood kept falling and smothering the tiny flame. After several tries, the flames caught. He sat back and watched the flames lick at the kindling for a few minutes, making sure it was going to catch the logs before he walked away. Once it caught, he went to took a quick, hot shower and put on something warm.
When he returned, the fire was burning strong. He added a couple logs, sat in a nearby chair, and propped his feet
