I apologized profusely to Alba for my son’s appalling behavior, but she just smiled and told me that she’d “seen much worse” in her work as a free-lance nanny. I told her I wanted to check up on some of her references, but assuming that there were no glaring problems with her past employers, the job was hers. I’d call her back tomorrow to confirm, and if possible, she should be prepared to start as soon as Wednesday. I was already sure that her references would check out.
