I walked down the hallway, glancing over my shoulder every few steps, my heartbeat quickening with each sound that echoed behind me. When I was sure no one was following, I slipped into Brian’s room and pushed the door shut quietly.
The soft click of the lock felt louder than it should have as I turned it, sealing myself inside with him. My eyes shifted toward the bed, but he wasn’t there. Brian sat opposite a small table, his head bent over a pile of papers. He barely looked up when I entered, just a brief flicker of his gaze before he turned away, as if I was nothing more than an interruption.
"I thought you were never going to come see me," he mumbled, flipping through the sheets without interest. "Enzo’s got you wrapped around his fingers like some unwanted rope."
