Alice POV.
I wanted to run after her, but I knew that that could be a trap, so I discarded the thought. Ella would likely frame me for what I didn't do and cause me to get severely beaten by the pack warriors. And today being a special occasion in the pack, I can't afford to get scars on my beautiful face. I had some wounds on my face before which just got healed. I can't afford to sustain another one now.
Although I was not expecting anything special from today's ceremony. I just don't know why I'm feeling so positive about the event; it's probably because this is my first outing in a long time, I guess.
I was ready but my step-sister, Ella and her mother were still waiting for the new dress which they had instructed Vivian to get. I wondered why the dress I saw on Ella was not enough for her to wear to the event.
“Maggie! Ella!”… My father shouted from his office upstairs. “We are running out of time, let's start going please”
Maggie, as popularly called by the pack members, rushed to my father's office to beg him to give him a little time for the delivery man to arrive.
My father didn't even call my name. I'm probably not part of his life again. It's sad to see my once caring and loving father turned into a stranger.
Life has been unbearable since the death of my twin brother, Alex.
My father, who had been showing me love and care, suddenly grew cold towards me. He joined his new wife and other pack members to degrade me.
My mother passed on a few years after my twin brother and I were born, while my grandmother, who took care of us after my mother's demise too, died after a few years of taking possession of us.
My father had to remarry so that he'd have someone who could take care of us.
Unfortunately, my twin brother, Alex passed on mysteriously at the age of twelve.
My world hasn't remained the same since the death of my twin brother.
What made the matter worse is that I was accused of killing him. Yes, my stepmother said I did hit something on my brother's head which led to his death.
My father and most of the pack members believed her. It's only the moon goddess who could testify and prove that I knew nothing about his death.
Since I couldn't find my wolf and my mate yet at age 20, where typically female wolves do find their wolves and mates between 16–18 years old, I was transferred to the omega dormitory to join my fellow weak, worthless peers.
As if that was not enough, since the death of my twin brother, I had been sent out of the main castle. I was relegated to the O.M Hall. O.M Hall is a short form for Omega Hall. It's a large dormitory for omega wolves in the pack.
Although I don't stay in the castle, I do all the cleaning and every house chore necessary there. The housekeepers were sacked last year by my stepmother so that I could fully take on the responsibility. Life hasn't been easy for me. My stepmother had practically taken my father's position in the pack. She makes rules and gives orders as she likes, even without my father's consent.
As I thought about my misery, I got tired of the endless wait, so I dozed off.
After a while, I woke from my sleep, as though someone had pinched me sharply. Panic surged through me as I glanced at the clock, my heart sinking. The ceremony was scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM, but to my shock, I had overslept and it was already 8:30 PM. A wave of regret washed over me as I scrambled to piece together what to do next, knowing I was already running late.
I tried to unlock my room's door in order to set out and to my greatest surprise, I discovered that I had been locked inside my room. The tears I hadn’t planned on shedding poured from my eyes uncontrollably.
“Hello, is anybody at home?” I screamed towards my window.
“Who is there? Vivian! Ella! Maggie! Alpha!” I kept shouting their names and banging the door, hoping someone would hear and answer me.
However, to my surprise, nobody responded.
The whole house was quiet as a graveyard. The whole electrical appliances had been turned off from the general source. The time is now 9pm and I could barely see anything.
Who could have locked me in my room?
Is it that nobody knew that I was inside the room, or I don't really matter to this pack at all?
“How will I get to the venue of the ceremony?” I cried bitterly as my dress got soaked with sweat and tears.
I kept shouting, hitting my bed and blaming myself for sleeping off.
While pondering what to do, I remembered that I had a spare key which I kept in my wardrobe. This realization made me smile again. I approached my wardrobe to search for the key. After using my hand to inspect every corner of the wardrobe, I couldn't find the key. To my surprise, I found the keyholder but not the key.
“What's actually going on?” I thought.
Suddenly, I heard a loud banging coming from the main entrance.
I tried to listen carefully to be sure if it was not a dream. It wasn't. The banging was so loud that I thought my pack had been invaded by another pack.
Fear gripped me and lots of terrible thoughts encapsulated my mind.
It was so dark that I could barely see anything.
After a while, my door suddenly opened without a trace of anyone in sight.
Now I started shivering and praying that my life wouldn't finally come to an end.
“Hello… Who is there?” I said with fear and uncertainty, my voice barely above a whisper.
“Who is there?”
