Lavina:
"And he will be missed dearly," my stepmother delivered the eulogy for my father, wiping away unseen tears.
I felt betrayed and disgusted. It had only been a few hours since I received the news of my father's passing. The Alpha King, Victor Vanguard, had passed away two days ago. I had been informed by the Royal Beta, Mr. Wilkin, about my father's passing just a few hours ago.
I couldn't bear to stand among these people who had always been so rude and judgmental toward me. These same pack members had often told my father that a she-wolf couldn't lead the pack as Alpha. Under immense pressure, my father had eventually decided to give this conniving woman a chance in his life, and now she had the opportunity to deliver a speech and shed her insincere tears.
I despised the sight of her.
My father wanted to have babies with her—a son—who would grow up and become the Alpha King of the pack. But now he is gone. She didn’t have a child, as far as I knew.
The entire hall was filled with royals on one side, dressed in fancy black clothes, and on the other side were pack members grieving the loss of their beloved Alpha King.
"At least look a bit affected by my speech," Odessa marched up to me and whispered in my ear, keeping the act of a broken smile that she was passing around.
"I’m not moved by your fake mess of words. I miss my father, and I don’t need you to remind me of the pain I’m feeling right now," I hissed under my breath.
"Your brothers won’t like the tone you’re using with me," she said, making me turn my head to question her.
My brothers?
I don’t have any. I hoped she was not suggesting she was pregnant, but then she wouldn’t be drinking so much.
I couldn’t take it anymore. Leaving Odessa in the hall, I stormed out, heading toward the main mansion. They were about to eat the food Odessa had specially ordered for the funeral, but I didn’t have an appetite. My heart still ached from the sad news of losing my father.
Brushing back my black hair that I had left flowing down my back, I tried to regain my composure. I had hurried here to attend the funeral, feeling frustrated and angry about the delayed news. Sure I had left the pack a long time ago because of one reason only. The pack member’s bullying had grown too much. I decided to leave the pack and study at a rogue school.
"Have you seen my boyfriend anywhere?" I asked the maid who was lugging a tray loaded with drinks for the funeral hall from across the road. Odessa had insisted on having her drinks delivered from the mansion itself, taking every chance to display her authority as my new stepmother.
"Hmm?" I repeated my question when the maid didn't respond right away. I reckoned it would be much better to have my boyfriend by my side rather than facing my stepmother alone but ever since we got here, he had gone missing on me.
"I saw Alpha Cayson Woods wandering around the late Alpha King's room," the maid replied before continuing with her tasks.
"He must be missing my dad," I sighed, remembering how close the two of them used to be during my father's time assisting him through his transition. Not only that, my father had played a crucial role in helping him secure the Alpha title for his pack, preventing his demotion from the position. Him and his twin brother were greatly appreciated and loved by my father.
Cayson and I became friends when he confided in me about his feelings shortly after my fifteenth birthday; he was just a year older. Although my response wasn't exactly the same, I did find him attractive. Him and his brother, Tyson, had been my great friends since we were kids. We remained friends for quite a while until I eventually made the decision to accept Cayson as my boyfriend and that's when Tyson distanced himself from us. I never found out why. My relationship with Cayson started with dating. I had hoped I could mark and officially accept him on my eighteenth birthday, but unfortunately, that won't be happening anytime soon. Not feeling the mate bond with him wasn’t the issue, but my father's demise was.
My eighteenth birthday had occurred just two days ago, the same day my father passed away. I couldn't bring myself to celebrate because I was upset that my father hadn't been there to wish me. Nevertheless, Cayson stood by my side when we received the news. He drove me back home and stayed with me throughout the journey, as I couldn't hold back my tears.
About two years ago, I had left the pack because I couldn't endure being there any longer. However, circumstances forced me to return, only to find my father gone.
"Cayson?" I called out for him, walking through the long hallway of the mansion, getting closer to my father's room.
As I approached, my heartbeat quickened in my chest. Since I had chosen him as my mate but had not yet marked him, my wolf couldn't sense the tension of an messy situation. Nevertheless, an unusual feeling washed over me as I heard unfamiliar voices coming from inside the room.
"Ahhhh! Put that whole rod in me," a girl's loud moan reached my ears, causing me to almost trip. I steadied myself by grabbing onto the wall for support. The sounds were coming from my late father's bedroom, the same room he had shared with my mother before her passing.
I quickly reached the door and found it slightly open. This action showed how little these two cared about getting caught, or maybe they were sure no one would discover them there, given everyone's focus on the funeral proceedings in the hall.
Before my eyes was a sight I hadn't expected to witness.
Cayson had his white shirt open and his pants lying on the bed. He was breathing heavily with a girl bent over in doggy style in my parent’s bed. She was using my mother’s pillow. which she must have found from the closet, to support her body while Cayson was f*****g her without a care in the world.
It was like seeing a scene from a horror movie. My body was too numb to show a proper response for a few seconds.
"Who is your f*****g daddy now?" Cayson had deepened his voice when smacking her on the ass and making her let out a yelp.
This side of him had remained hidden from me.
"You are m---y f*****g da---ddy," the girl responded, screaming at the top of her lungs when he gave a wild thrust inside her.
"Ah! Look, Alpha King Vanguard! See how wild I can get," he taunted my father for not being there to stop them.
That was it. I couldn't let him defile my father's room, and disrespect my father, the man that had always been kind to him throughout his life. Was this how he chose to repay my father's generosity?
With determination, I slammed my hand against the door, creating a loud noise to grab their attention. Startled, they separated abruptly and turned to face me in astonishment.
"How could you do this to me on the day when I needed you the most?" I yelled, marching into the room with determination. Cayson looked shocked and frightened, quickly trying to fix his pants, while the girl managed to cover herself with a thin, white dress. She stayed on the bed, the same bed that belonged to my parents.
"And you!" I directed my anger at her, pointing my finger accusingly.
How dare she enter my father's bedroom? As the alpha in line, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I walked over to the bed and grabbed her by her hair, pulling her down forcefully.
"Ah!" She screamed in pain, stumbling and barely managing to hold her dress in place.
I had no prior acquaintance with this blonde girl, but her presence felt strangely unfamiliar and unsettling. The instant I touched her, something changed in Cayson. He rushed at me, seizing my wrist, and released the girl from my grip, pushing me away from her.
I was shocked. Cayson had not only betrayed me with an unfamiliar pack member, but he was now confronting me to defend her.
