Chapter 3

868 Words
"Willa bean!  wake up!  You are going to be late for dance class."  Willa peeled one eye open and  groaned.  School was over and there really was no reason to continue Ms. Addison's dance class so early in the morning.  Attending her class at 8am was ok, when she had to be to school at 10.  Daddy would drop her off and she would take the public bus to school afterwards.  Now that class was over, she wanted to switch to a later session but her father refused.  He seemed to enjoy the morning drive with his baby girl.  Willa, however, was getting frustrated with trying to balance hanging with her friends and performing.  She had one more dance recital and then she was done performing for the year.  During the summer, she mostly practiced and assisted the dance instructor with the younger groups.  This gave her a chance to practice more independent/contemporary dances that she would invent.   Willa came down the stairs after doing her morning routine.  She chose a navy blue leotard and paired with black sweats.  She put her hair into a high ponytail and grabbed her dance shoes and tape to wrap her feet and ankles and threw it into her duffle bag.  "Coming!" she bellowed as she ran into the kitchen.  "Morning mommy." she gave her mom a kiss on her cheek.  "Willa, stop yelling and sit.  Hurry and ear your breakfast.  Your dad will be ready in a minute." said Nadine as she passed Willa a plate.  Willa moaned as she bit into her piece of maple-glazed bacon. She began to do her happy dance as she poured syrup on her pancakes. She thought about whether or not she should bring up the party to her step mother.  Maybe if she told her about it first, she would help her convince her dad to let her go.  After all, mommy Nadine did like the girls and let them come over when daddy was at work or the gym.  "Mommy?" "Si bambina, que pasa?' responded Nadine while focusing on dishing up a plate for her husband.  Willa smiled. Nadine tends to speak in her native tongue of Spanish when she is focused on something else and not the conversation she is having.  "Mom, pay attention. you are speaking Spanish." Nadine picked her head up. "Hunh? Oh, sorry sweetheart. I'm trying to finish your father's plate and wondering what is taking him so long to finish getting dressed."  "Mom, I wanted to ask you if I can go to Clarissa's birthday party and spend the night after this weekend."  Nadine frowned as she looked at her youngest. " Baby, you know I can't give you permission. Your father has to tell you if its ok.  Even if I say yes, He may still say no, and I am pretty sure he is not going to like the idea of you spending the night.  You know how he feels about you staying away from home.".  Willa began to pout. "But he lets Jessica stay at her friends house. Sometimes she stays out for the whole weekend! That is so unfair.! Can't you please talk to him?" she pleaded. Nadine looked so uncomfortable and just as she was about to reply her husband walked into the kitchen. Alex walked over to his wife and bend down to place a kiss by her temple as he took his breakfast plate out of her hands.   Alex Kirpatrick was  6'4" with a very wide chest and massive arms.  He looked like a football player.  He had a flawless caramel complexion with whisky colored eyes.  To say he was handsome would be an understatement.  Women young and old would throw themselves at  him and flirt with him shamelessly.  He always had a serious face that only smiled when looking at his daughters. Passion was added when looking at his wife.  He was very dedicated to his family and they were at the top of his list to protect and love.  It was good that Nadine was not an insecure woman but then again, she was quite the looker herself.  Standing at 5'6" with a coke bottle figure, she made other women her age look at her with envy and younger girls with jealousy they way she could pull off the simplest outfit and make it sexy without trying. Add beautiful  wavy hair that fell to her shoulders and grey eyes, she turned a few heads herself.  Alex looked at his daughter with a stern expression. "Eat up little one, we are almost running late"  "But dad you just came down and haven't even started your breakfast." Willa accused. Alex just smiled and began to put his bacon in the middle of his pancake. He added some syrup and rolled it up. He smirked as  he broke the sand which in half and tossed it into his mouth without making a mess.  "You were saying?" he joked while chewing.  Willa laughed and did the same.  Nadine just shook her head as she passed her husband his travel cup of coffee and a portable orange juice box for Willa.  Father and daughter grabbed what was needed and headed out to the car.
