"I can't say anything about it! What are you implying that I did?"
A faint voice scolded within the Manor's walls. Audrey could not sleep, as the flicker of a candle was seen on the corridors. How in God's name did that not wake anyone up?
Thinking no further, she slipped out of bed and tiptoed to the halls. There she saw Frisella, speaking to who seemed like a man. Audrey tipped toed back into her room and basically, pulled her dress on her, dressing herself. Frisella left with the unknown man and Audrey followed slowly behind, her heart beating out of her chest as her breathing quickened. They walked towards a quaint inn that was lit with many torches and candles. Music was pouring out from every opening, drawing in drunkards and prostitutes.
Audrey stopped behind a carriage to see Frisella going towards the back of the building, looking left to right and hesitantly, walking into the darkness. Audrey held up her dress and ran where she last saw her cousin, to stop and fling herself back as someone was approaching.
"Are you going to keep this a mystery forever?!" The man said with a disgusted voice.
"It isn't a mystery if everyone thinks it has a father!" Frisella yelled as sounds of mud squished.
What in heavens–
"Did you really just called, that may be MY unborn child, it?"
Audrey could not stand as her knees trembled. To aid her, she leaned against the wall and covered her mouth to prevent herself from gasping. Frisella seems to be having an affair with an unknown man who might be the father of her child?
No, no. Audrey must have heard wrong.
To justify her accusations, she leaned in more and listened.
"I did. I'm the one bearing the child and I shall do as I please. You certainly were not to be found when I became a child, was! You're an incompetent fool!"
"Yet you're here. In the middle of the dreaded night with the man that plucked you. Look, I just want my child to be safe. If they know who the father is, they will kill it."
Devilish he was indeed. Audrey had swore she heard that voice before. Why was it that she could not see his face? She moved forward trying to put a face to the voice she was hearing, as the sound of the squished mud interrupted them.
"Who's there!" He asked as he began pacing forward with a sound of a knife following him.
Audrey stopped hoping that he could not sense her movement. Unfortunately the man paces forward faster, as Frisella whispered for him to come back.
Bloody hell- Audrey whispered.
Audrey lifted her dress and ran towards the same carriage that was left on the other side of the road. She swore to herself, as she had wished she picked a lighter dress. It made it unbelievably hard to move around in.
Audrey held onto the carriage wheels and waited until Frisella and the man went back in. She was trembling from what was her life, flashed before her eyes for a second. He was going to gut her like a fish if she was ever caught.
Curiosity did kill the cat, Audrey imagined as she was walking back to the manor, as she could not make sense of things that had just happened. Though the man seemed like he cared about her, why on earth did he lay his hands on her?
Following what happened earlier, Audrey wanted nothing more than a hot bath and her soft and cloud-like bed. Just before bed, Daisy knocked on her door.
"Audrey, I came to your room a while ago and you were not there." she asked, folding her arms.
"Are you a vampire, Daisy?" Audrey snickered to lighten the mood.
Daisy did not buy the sad attempt to change the subject and waited for an answer.
"I went to the stables. Hamilton seems to be of great company to me," she said, rubbing her neck.
"A horse is more of great company to you?!"
"Yes. Problem?"
*A question I must ask myself*
"What was that?"
"I'm tired. If I do say so myself," smiled Audrey, trying her best to fixate on not losing it.
Just as Daisy left, Audrey started pacing around the room running her hands through her curls.
"Pure madness!"
The thought of the mysterious man sent chills down her spine. What did Frisella get herself into?
Well, to Audrey's luck the mysteries were just sprucing up from what was going to be a rather good spring in Newton.
