Chapter2: The Multi-Millionaire

These few WeChat messages quickly triggered a certain memory inside the original host's mind. It turned out that the rotten idea of drugging Richard had been proposed by this person named Jenny Bright. Following this memory, Lila discovered that all the original body's foolish actions over the years couldn't be separated from Jenny Bright's 'brilliant plans'. This Jenny Bright was not any good best friend at all; she was a troublemaker who was jealous of the original body. Because Jenny Bright came from a similar background as the original body, being a wealthy stepdaughter, her life was not easy, so she became jealous of the original body who was treated well by the Ashton Family. She constantly gave the original body terrible advice, wanting to see her be despised by the Ashton Family. Unfortunately, the original body was clueless, without any other friends to remind her, she was always harmed by Jenny Bright, ultimately leading her to her own ruin. But now... Lila sneered, not bothering to tidy things up anymore; she leaned against the headboard and began messaging Jenny Bright. 'No, you took that joke seriously? He's my elder brother; how could I possibly drug him. Let's not mention this matter anymore, it won't be good for you if my family finds out, understand?' Lila didn't curse at Jenny Bright and block her right away because during the search of the original body's memory, she found out Jenny Bright had borrowed a lot of money from the original body. Not just money, she had even 'borrowed' the original body's bags and jewelry, some of which had not been returned to this day. All this, Lila intended to take back when the opportunity arose. That's why she was temporarily keeping this plastic friendship. On the other side of the phone, Jenny Bright was waiting to watch a good show, but she didn't expect Lila to pull such a move. She became anxious and immediately called. "Hello, Lila. What's wrong with you? Wasn't everything already planned out before, how come you suddenly changed your mind? It wasn't easy to have your mother's birthday banquet with your elder brother staying over; you might not get such an easy chance to run into him again. I'm doing this for your own good!" Oh, she was in a hurry now. Lila chuckled, "Jenny, I'm serious. Your stepfather's birthday is coming up soon, isn't it? Surely your stepbrother will come back for a reunion. Why don't you drug him instead? I mean this for your own good." "You, what are you talking about?" The voice on the other end paused, "Lila, why have you suddenly—" "I won't talk about it now, my mom is looking for me." Lila didn't bother to talk more with Jenny Bright and directly found an excuse to hang up the phone. Jenny Bright on the other end didn't dare to call or message again when she heard Chloe Lee was looking for Lila. Because Lila was right about one thing she hadn't mentioned; if the Ashton Family found out that it was her, Jenny Bright, who instigated Lila to drug Richard, she definitely wouldn't end well. After ending the call, Lila immediately began looking through the chat history between the original body and Jenny Bright, then followed up by checking their bank transfer history, silently making a note of Jenny Bright's account. Then, Lila's gaze was fiercely drawn to a string of numbers in the asset column on the bank APP. Tens, hundreds, thousands, ten-thousands, hundreds of thousands—the balance in her bank account was actually more than nine million! Nearly ten million in wealth!! The original body was a multi-millionaire! All this was pocket money given by her foster parents; with so much money, why bother fighting with the legitimate daughters over nothing. It made Lila start to think she didn't want to leave the Ashton Family; it seemed like her foster parents could drop quite a sum even through the cracks of their fingers. However, this thought quickly vanished. She didn't want to live off her foster parents; she had things she wanted to achieve that she hadn't accomplished yet! Before crossing into this book, Lila loved acting, but suffered from a lack of money and resources. She, with a professional background, had signed with an agency during her school years. However, she had her principles and refused to accept any under-the-table deals, so she was shelved by her company even before officially debuting for offending a capital backer. After enduring five years, she finally reached the end of her contract, but she could only appear in cheap short dramas. After one went viral, she became a minor internet celebrity, but to make ends meet, she still had no say in choosing scripts. But now, she had money! Once she had money, many problems could be easily solved, and she no longer had to bend for a small sum! Exiting the banking APP, Lila immediately started searching the entertainment industry of this world online. She wanted to see who the big players in this circle were now, which entertainment companies were good, and if there were any drama troupes openly recruiting actors. She searched all night, but at 22 years old, she was still young and full of energy; so when she got up at seven o'clock the next morning, Lila was still very spirited. She even did half an hour of stretching yoga on her bed. Eight o'clock was the Ashton Family's breakfast time, a rule. The Ashton Family had a total of four sons, one daughter, and one adopted daughter. Although the original person and the true daughter, Sophie , each had their own real estate, they both mostly lived here after graduating from university. The four young masters each had their own careers to attend to and seldom came back to live. Just last night, only the eldest son, Richard, had stayed. When Lila came downstairs, David, Chloe Lee, and Richard had already taken their seats at the dining table. But even after Lila sat down, the true daughter, Sophie, had yet to appear. Years ago, the seat beside Chloe Lee usually belonged to the original person, but ever since Sophie returned, it had become hers. Today, Sophie was clearly late, and had it been the original person, she would probably have taken a seat next to Chloe Lee. But Lila had no intention of competing for favor; she merely greeted everyone and quietly pulled out the chair next to Richard. Lila had not dared to look at Richard properly the night before because she felt guilty; now, looking at him up close, she had to admit, he really did seem very conducive to sleep. His good looks went without saying; given David and Chloe Lee's one-in-a-million appearances, their child's appearance wouldn't be far behind. Richard even combined all the best features of his parents. He had a great physique, broad shoulders, a slim waist, and long legs. The only flaw was that he was as cold as a block of ice, the kind that even open flames couldn't melt. She couldn't imagine where the original person got the courage to even think of drugging him. But no matter what, he was her brother in name, and Lila harbored no improper thoughts towards him. And just after she took her seat, her foster father, David, spoke up. "Let's eat. After breakfast, Lila will ride with me to the company." Are we starting the meal now? Lila was somewhat surprised. "But Dad, aren't we waiting for Sophie?" she asked. "No need to wait for her," Chloe Lee spoke, "Sophie’s adoptive mother suddenly fell ill and was hospitalized last night, and she rushed to the hospital. She hasn't come back yet." "Oh, I see, Sophie really has it tough." After saying that, Lila couldn't help but reflect internally. [Ms. Lee even talks so gently, she truly is a good mother. But I wonder if she would think I was being childish if I changed my mind and said I didn't want to go to the company to work later? After all, it was I who had insisted on joining the company before.] However, seeing that David had already started eating, and even Richard next to her was quietly drinking his porridge, Lila dared not speak. Because the aura around the father and son was too cold, like two refrigerators. Lila decided to wait until after eating to speak. She bowed her head to drink her milk, completely unaware that Chloe Lee, sitting diagonally opposite her, looked incredulous. Because Chloe Lee had heard Lila's voice again. But she clearly saw Lila had not moved her lips at all.
