Kail: I told myself for the millionth time that I was only there because that was where I belonged now. That was the lie I repeated every time my feet brought me back to that clearing…because I didn’t know where I belonged anymore. Months had passed since Angora had been executed, yet the place refused to change for me. The council had repaired the damage within days. The scorched earth had been replaced. The broken stones had been cleared. They had made it clean, as if order could erase what had happened there. I did not forget. This was where I had trained her. This was where she had struggled to control power that never listened to her.
