A man stood at the end of the tunnel.
He looked exhausted, wearing an old military uniform covered in dust.
Nyra stared at him.
“Who are you?”
The man raised his hands.
“My name is Dr. Elias Venn.”
Sera immediately pointed her weapon at him.
“You were supposed to be dead.”
Elias gave a tired smile.
“So was everyone else who knew the truth.”
Nyra stepped forward.
“You know what happened to me.”
“I helped create the program.”
Nyra's expression hardened.
“What program?”
Elias looked toward Kian.
“Don't you remember?”
Kian shook his head.
“Remember what?”
Elias reached into his jacket and removed a small metal device.
“The first signal wasn't sent by the aliens.”
Nyra stared at him.
“Then who sent it?”
Elias looked directly at her.
“Humanity.”
Silence filled the tunnel.
Nyra shook her head.
“That doesn't make sense.”
“It will.”
Elias activated the device.
A hologram appeared, showing a massive machine beneath the Earth.
“We built a transmitter to contact another civilization.”
Nyra watched the machine.
“And did it work?”
Elias looked frightened.
“Yes.”
He lowered his voice.
“But something answered.”
The lights behind them suddenly flickered.
A distorted voice echoed through the tunnel.
“Elias Venn. You have lied long enough.”
Elias dropped the device.
Then something began approaching from the darkness.
