Nyra stared at Elias.
“You created me?”
Elias looked away.
“I didn't create you. I helped make you what you are.”
Nyra stepped closer.
“What does that mean?”
Before Elias could answer, the lights suddenly turned red.
Sera looked at the security monitor.
“Someone has opened the eastern gate.”
Kian frowned.
“But only commanders have access.”
Sera turned toward the guards.
“Find the intruder!”
A gunshot echoed through the settlement.
Everyone froze.
Then another.
The lights went out.
Nyra grabbed Kian's hand and pulled him behind a wall.
A shadow moved through the darkness.
Sera switched on her flashlight.
“Show yourself!”
A figure stepped into the light.
One of the settlement's guards.
He was holding a small silver device.
Sera stared at him.
“Why?”
The guard looked at Nyra.
“They promised to save us.”
“Who?”
The guard pointed upward.
“The Architects.”
Suddenly, the ceiling began vibrating.
Dust fell from above.
Elias looked terrified.
“They're opening the gate.”
Nyra looked at the floor.
A circular pattern began glowing beneath her feet.
Then a voice echoed through the settlement.
“NYRA VALE. COME HOME.”
Nyra looked up.
For the first time, she wasn't sure Earth was her home anymore.
