Something Is Wrong With Me

1040 Words
Pain. That was the first thing I felt. Not sharp. Not sudden. But deep. Burning. Like it had settled into my bones and refused to leave. A soft groan slipped past my lips as I tried to move, but the moment I did, pain shot through my entire body, forcing me back down. My eyes fluttered open slowly. Everything felt… heavy. Wrong. The ceiling above me was unfamiliar. Dark stone stretched overhead, cracked in places, shadows clinging to every corner. The air was thick, pressing down on my chest, making it harder to breathe. I swallowed, my throat dry. Where am I? The last thing I remembered came rushing back all at once. The forest. The growl. Him. The bite. My hand flew to my neck. I froze the second my fingers brushed against my skin. Heat. Too much heat. The spot throbbed under my touch, sensitive and alive, like something was pulsing beneath it. A sharp wave shot through me, stealing the air from my lungs. I gasped. Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong. I could feel it. Not just in the wound. But everywhere. Under my skin. In my veins. A strange energy moved through me, slow but steady, like it had always been there… just waiting. Panic rose quickly in my chest as I pushed myself up. Clink. The sound echoed loudly in the quiet room. I stilled. My eyes dropped slowly. Chains. Cold metal wrapped tightly around my wrists, secured to the sides of the bed. For a moment, I just stared. My mind refused to understand what I was seeing. Then it hit me. Hard. “No…” My voice came out weak. Shaky. I pulled against them, my heart racing as the metal bit into my skin. Nothing. They didn’t move. “Hey! HEY!” My voice rose, panic breaking through. “Let me go!” My words bounced off the stone walls, swallowed by the emptiness. No answer. No movement. Nothing. My breathing quickened as fear tightened around my chest. Why am I chained? What did he do to me? Footsteps echoed from outside. Slow. Controlled. Coming closer. My entire body went rigid. The door creaked open. And he stepped inside. Aeron. My breath caught instantly. He filled the space without even trying. Power rolled off him, heavy and suffocating, making the air feel thicker, harder to breathe. Those golden eyes locked onto mine. And something inside me reacted. A pull. Sharp. Sudden. Like something deep inside me recognized him. My fingers tightened instinctively around the chains. “You’re awake,” he said. His voice was calm. Too calm. Like nothing about this situation bothered him. I swallowed hard. “Why am I chained?” His expression didn’t change. Not even slightly. “You tell me.” Confusion flared. “I don’t… what does that even mean? You kidnapped me!” His jaw tightened. Barely noticeable. “You were in my territory,” he said coldly. “You should be dead.” A chill ran down my spine. “But you’re not.” The way he said it made my stomach twist. Like I was a problem he didn’t know how to fix. I forced myself to meet his gaze. “Then why am I here?” Silence stretched between us. Heavy. Uncomfortable. Then— He moved. Too fast. One second he was across the room. The next— He was right in front of me. I sucked in a sharp breath. Too close. Way too close. My body reacted instantly, heat rushing through me as his presence surrounded me. He reached out, gripping my chin, forcing my head up. My breath hitched. His touch burned. Not painful. But intense. Too intense. “You tell me,” he repeated, his voice is lower now. “What are you?” My heart pounded wildly. “I’m human,” I said quickly. But even as I said… It didn’t feel right anymore. His eyes darkened. “No,” he said quietly. A shiver ran through me. “You’re not.” My pulse spiked. “I don’t know what you want me to say…” “You felt it.” His voice cut through mine. Sharp. Unyielding. “That moment in the forest.” My breath caught. Because he was right. I felt something. Something powerful. Something alive. “I…” I hesitated. His grip tightened. “Say it.” “I don’t know!” I snapped, panic spilling over. “I don’t know what’s happening to me!” For a split second Something flickered in his eyes. Something softer. But it vanished almost immediately. “Your body reacted to my mark,” he said. “Not like a human. Not like a wolf.” My stomach twisted painfully. “What does that mean?” He didn’t answer right away. And somehow… That scared me more. “You’re a problem,” he said finally. The words hit harder than they should have. Before I could respond— Pain slammed into me. A gasp tore from my throat as my entire body locked up. Heat surged through my veins again, stronger this time, more violent. “No… no…” My back arched as the burning spread, tearing through me. It felt like something inside me was trying to break free. Like I couldn’t contain it anymore. My vision blurred. My heartbeat pounded loudly in my ears. Too loud. Too fast. And then— Something snapped. A burst of energy exploded out of me. The chains rattled violently. The air shifted. The room itself seemed to react. Aeron stepped back sharply. For the first time— He looked surprised. “What the hell…” The pressure built again, rising higher, stronger, uncontrollable. Something inside me was waking up. Something powerful. Something dangerous. Then suddenly— It stopped. Everything went still. My body collapsed back against the bed, weak and shaking as I struggled to breathe. Silence filled the room. Thick. Heavy. Aeron didn’t move. Didn’t speak. He just stared at me. Like I wasn’t human. Like I was something else. Something he didn’t understand. Something he might not be able to control. And for the first time… I was starting to think he might be right.
