NORTH SHORE, HAWAII 2021
BELLE: RING OF LIFE. Lauren and I arrived in Hawaii from Brooklyn, New York, with Uncle Simone’s private jet. We are back in our domicile for my Nana Delia, who is in the ICU (intensive care unit). When we reached the hospital, I felt my limbs weak as a candle melting, seeing my grandmother barely breathing. She had ventilators supporting her to keep her heart alive. The doctors declared Nana Delia brain dead.
My Nana visited me in New York two months ago. No one told me she was sick. However, she could not stay longer with me because of her golden retrievers, Koa and Kulani. If I only knew that would be the last time we could spend time talking to each other. Then, I could have given her more time.
