She had successfully avoided Alex all day. Well, she didn’t have to avoid someone who was gone for the time being. His nonstop watching over her was as suffocating as it was endearing. Maybe more of one than the other.
She had to shake all those thoughts away.
Katelyn—as helpful as a mere human could be—heard from an aunt in Virginia saying her mother had called. Alex and Gabe went with her to see if she was going to show up. No one had seen her mother in…probably over a year. Before that, she was in and out anyway.
Humans are weak, she thought to herself. Katelyn’s mother was supposedly still grieving the loss of her husband and did so in an unmotherly-like fashion. Nora would know. Her mother—while alive—sacrificed everything for her.
