Savannah Grace- Summer is Over

706 Words
The end of Sophomore year came and went. Summer is nearly over. I feel like I hardly got to see Brayden at all but we were both busy. He started hanging out at the cabin more and more this summer, he had basketball camp, his family went on vacation, and helped his dad whenever he was home. There were 2 weeks during the summer that I was away at church camp plus my youth group's beach weekend, babysitting, and hanging out with the girls. They were complaining that I don't hang out with them as much ever since I started seeing Brayden. I guess that's not a total lie so I tried to make up for it this summer which was nice. It's felt like Brayden is getting more distant. We still talk on the phone and text but it's not like it used to be. These last few months, I have fallen in love with him. It's not like anything I've ever felt before, that's how I know it's real love. I've had boyfriends in the past, ones that have lasted longer than Brayden and I have been together but nothing that made me feel the way he does. Just thinking about him gives me butterflies. I don't want to be the clingy girlfriend especially since we are both so busy, I didn't want to make him feel guilty because we weren't able to see each other as much over the summer as I wanted to. My phone rang and I looked at the screen hoping Brayden's name would pop up. "Hey!" Mary said in her usual perky voice. "Mary! How are you?" It really is good to hear from her, "I'm great! Guess what?? We are coming to visit!!" We both squeal with excitement. "When?" I ask. "Next week. That's your last week of summer before going back to school, right?" ""It is, I can't wait to see you. Have you told any of the other girls yet?" "No, you're the first person I called! My parents decided to homeschool me this year so I can really come whenever but I thought that since everyone would be out of school for one more week, we'd come down then so we can hang out more." "Sounds like fun! I'm excited. What do you want to do while you're here?" "One thing I want to do is be officially introduced to that hottie you're dating." "Oh" I say with a sigh, "What's wrong, you guys are still together, aren't you?" "Well, yes but we've barely seen each other the whole summer! We text and talk on the phone but it's not the same. I thought I'd get to hang out with him more now that school is out. We see each other more in school than we have this summer. We've both had really busy schedules and have been out of town on different weeks so it's just been hard". "I'm sorry Savannah Grace, that definitely is a bummer. Hopefully we can all get together next week and hang out." "I'll see if he's free." "Ok, I'm excited but I have to go call the other girls!" She says excitedly as she hangs up the phone. I text Brayden, "Mary is going to be in town next week for the last week before school and she really wants to meet you". It's at least a good 15 minutes before he texts me back which isn't normal for him pre summer. "I don't think I'll be around, Mitch is having a last week of summer bash at his parent's cabin. I've never been to this party but he has it every year and it is basically a week long throw down before we are confined to school again". I didn't like the sound of that but I would never say that to him. I'm not the overbearing jealous type of girlfriend so I just respond with "Ok, I wish you were here" and close my phone. I wonder why all of a sudden he's interested in these big parties. He seems to be different from the Brayden I fell in love with. Oh well, I think to myself, at least I get to see Mary next week!
