I'm pretty sure I floated out of Savannah Grace's house that night. I don't know how I got up the courage to kiss her but I am so glad I did. It was the most amazing kiss I have ever had. I could have stayed there kissing her for hours. If my mom hadn't been outside waiting for me, I just may have.
I climb into my mom's car and Jackson gives me a look. He knows me well enough to know something is up by the look on my face. He nudges me and whispers, "So? What happened? Did you ask her out?"
"Yeah I did. And I kissed her!"
"What??" he whispers louder this time, "Far cry from not even being able to talk to her. How was it?"
"It was the most amazing kiss I have ever had, I just can't explain it. It was worth all the time I spent agonizing over what to say to her. I really like this girl. Thanks for coming with me, I needed a wingman, I owe you!"
"No problem, you would have done it for me. So when are you guys going out?"
"I'm not sure, I asked her out but we didn't finalize anything. I couldn't speak after that kiss so I just kind of walked out." Jackson laughed. I'm so thankful for his friendship.
After we drop him off and start towards home, it's just about dinnertime. My mom stops by and picks up a couple of pizzas and we head home. I couldn't tell you what was on that pizza, I just grabbed a few slices and went upstairs. Since my parents are rarely around at dinner, we don't have many 'family dinners' around our house. Normally we just grab whatever is around and take it up to our rooms or the bonus room. In fact, before the night Jackson's family came over for lasagna, I can't remember the last time my family actually all sat down together for a meal. I get upstairs and set my plate down on my desk. I pull out my phone. Should I text her or wait? I really wanted to hang out with her again. Would now be too soon to set a date? I'm not good at this stuff.
I hear a knock on my door, "Come in" I reply, my mom walks in.
"How was your evening?'
"It was good" I say taking a bite of my pizza.
"Did you and Jackson have fun hanging out with your new friend?"
If only she knew, "Yeah we did, she's cool".
"Good, well I just came in to tell you goodnight. I'll see you in the morning but then I'll be heading back to New York for a week or so. Dad will be here for a few days but I've asked the neighbors to look in on you from time to time as usual after that. If you need anything, give them a call. I'll see you in a couple weeks" she finishes before giving me a kiss on the head. "Don't stay up too late and please don't forget to bring that plate back downstairs when you're done. I do not want another science experiment growing in your bedroom".
"Yes mom" I say as she steps out of my room closing the door behind her.
I decide to text Savannah Grace but not about the date, just hopefully for some casual conversation.
"Hey, thanks for letting us come over today. You have a nice house and it was nice being able to hang out and talk for a while." I had actually learned quite a bit about her while we were there. She goes to church every Sunday morning and youth group every Sunday evening. She has lived in that house for most of her life, born in and raised right here. We talked a little bit about her family, I learned she has 2 brothers which was told they were upstairs playing video games. Come to think of it, I never saw any of her family while I was there.
"Hey to you." She responds, "It was good getting to hang out with you outside of class". I grin, I'm glad we both agree on that. We continue to text back and forth and before I realize it, it's already after nine.
"It has been really good talking to you... again..." I text her, "I really need to get in the shower and get to bed. See you in school on Monday?"
"Sure, have a good night" she texts back.
"Goodnight" I say closing my phone. Still on a Savannah Grace high, I head towards the bathroom I share with my siblings and get ready for bed. School has all of a sudden become my favorite place to be and I can't wait for homeroom on Monday.
