I cannot believe that Freshman year is halfway over, I think to myself as I am entering the building of Evermore High after winter break. Overall I think it's been a good year, great friends, decent classes and I'm not doing so bad with my grades either. I'm deep in thought as I head to my locker when I hear
"SAVANNAH GRACE!!!" I don't even have to turn my head to know who that is. I spin around and see Mary running towards me, arms open. She embraces me in the biggest hug, "I know we saw each other some over break but it wasn't the same! I miss seeing you every day!"
"Hey Mary! How was your break?"
"Not too bad, it's so good to see you. See you at our table at lunch? I'm sure the girls will have so much to talk about!"
"I wouldn't miss it!" I say to her as I close my locker and head for homeroom.
The first day back is uneventful and pretty soon it's time to meet the girls for lunch. I walk into the cafeteria and head straight to our table. All the girls were talking excitedly and hugging each other, I was no exception. They brought me in and we all exchanged hugs before sitting down and pulling out our lunches. We all started in our normal back and forth banter when Micaela looks at me and says
"You are going to the basketball game this Friday, right Savannah Grace?"
"I don't know, I'm not really into sports."
Mary hears our conversation and butts in "Oh Savannah Grace, you just HAVE to come! It's all about socialization! These games are so much fun and there are so many cute boys! Have you seen our players this year? H-O-T-T"
I laugh and say "I'll think about it. Sounds more like a party than a sports event". That seems to be a sufficient answer for the moment as she returns to her original conversation she and Amelia were having. She has a talent of being able to pop in and out of conversations without missing a beat, I don't know how she does it.
We finish our lunch and continue catching up on each others lives when the bell rings. "Time for 6th period, I'll see you girls later!" I exclaim as I throw my trash away and head to my next class.
The final bell rings and I head out to carpool. Today was a decent day and I tell my mother as much as I hop in her car. As soon as we get home, I can hear the phone ringing. I don't even have to pick it up, I already know who it is. Even though Jessica and I haven't really kept up our promise to talk everyday this year, we at least catch up once a week or so and I just knew that was her on the other end of the line, it was, afterall, her first day back as well.
"Hey Jessica" I answer immediately
"Savannah Grace! How was your first day back? Was Mary super excited to see you?" She knows all about cheerful, energetic Mary.
"It was good. And yes, she was her normal bubbly self this morning as usual! She's trying to get me to go to the basketball game this Friday night but I just don't know. How was your day?"
"You should go! That would so much fun! You could meet all kinds of new people and maybe a few cute boys!"
"Jessica, you know I'm just focusing on surviving Freshman year. I have my group of friends but I'm not focusing on boys this year, they are just a big distraction."
"I know... But speaking of boys... There is this really cute boy in my 2nd period, his name is Brad and I finally got up the courage to give him my number today! I just hope he calls!"
"That's great Jessica! I am so happy for you!"
"I just wanted to call and check in! I'm glad you had a great day. I've got to get off but really think about going to the game on Friday, it'll be good for you to socialize some outside of school. Please just think about it?"
"I will" I promise "And good luck with Brad!"
"Thanks SG, talk soon!" Jessica is the only one that is allowed to call me SG. Thankfully that nickname hasn't gotten out at Evermore yet, I'm not particularly keen on it.
We hang up the phone and I head upstairs to get started on my homework.
