The Increasing Closeness

As Saloni and Samay started moving through the crowded mall, Samay instinctively grabbed Saloni’s hand to lead the way. Saloni (Ms. Wonder Queen): (protesting while being pulled along) "Mr. Hero, what are you doing? I’m not a kid who needs hand-holding in public!" Samay (Mr. Hero): (glancing back with a teasing grin) "I know you’re not a kid, Ms. Wonder Queen. But this mall is big and busy enough to lose even elders. Just stick with me, alright?" Saloni: (rolling her eyes) "Oh, please! You act like I’m going to get lost. I can manage perfectly fine, thank you very much." Samay: (chuckling) "Sure, you can manage… just like you managed that seatbelt earlier." Saloni shot him a mock glare but couldn’t help laughing at his remark. As they reached the elevator, their playful banter continued. Inside the elevator, they began arguing like kids over who had better mall navigation skills. Saloni: "You should have let me lead. We’d have been here ages ago!" Samay: (crossing his arms dramatically) "Oh, absolutely. And we’d probably still be stuck in some random aisle looking for an exit sign." Their argument was interrupted by an elderly couple standing nearby, who had been quietly observing them. Elderly Woman: (smiling warmly) "You two remind us of ourselves when we were younger—bickering over everything but so clearly in love." Saloni and Samay froze for a moment, their eyes wide with surprise, before bursting into laughter, trying to brush off the comment. Saloni: (laughing and waving her hands) "Oh no, no, no! That’s definitely not the case." Samay: (joining in with a mischievous grin) "Yeah, never ever. We’re just… crime partners, not a couple." Saloni: (grinning and pointing at Samay) "Him? Mr. Hero here? Oh, definitely not. He’d be the worst partner ever!" The elderly couple chuckled knowingly, clearly not convinced, but said nothing more. As the elevator doors opened, Saloni stepped out, her cheeks slightly flushed from the awkward moment. Samay: (as they walked) "You know, Wonder Queen, I feel like we should get matching 'crime partner' t-shirts now." Saloni: (rolling her eyes with a laugh) "Keep dreaming, Mr. Hero. Now let’s focus on not getting lost in this mall." Here’s the continuation of your story: ________________________________________ As they approached the floor, Shreya’s words echoed in Saloni and Samay’s minds. Shreya (on call): "We’re near the second aisle, close to the display mannequins. Hurry up, you two!" Samay (Mr. Hero): (spotting Shreya and Arjun) "There they are, Ms. Wonder Queen. Time to make an entrance." Before Saloni could ask what he meant, Samay picked up his pace, and the two of them sneaked up behind Shreya and Arjun. Samay and Saloni (in unison): (jumping out with wide grins) "Boo!" Both Shreya and Arjun visibly flinched, Shreya letting out a small yelp while Arjun jumped slightly. Shreya (laughing nervously): "You two are impossible! That wasn’t funny." Arjun: (trying to act composed) "Yeah, very mature, guys." Saloni (Ms. Wonder Queen): (giggling) "Oh, come on! It was worth it for your reactions." Samay (Mr. Hero): (pretending to be innocent) "Just a little fun, Mr. and Mrs. Almost Married. Don’t be so serious." Shreya: (rolling her eyes but smiling) "Anyway, you’re already late! Now let’s get to business. I’ve shortlisted some options, and I need your help to finalize the dresses. Let’s go!" They walked towards the racks where Shreya had kept her selections. The group started discussing which outfit would suit her best. Saloni: (raising a brow) "Wait, you and Arjun… do you two have a color combination planned for the day?" Shreya (playfully dramatic): "Obviously, we do! It’s a big day, Wonder Queen. We need to match and look picture-perfect." Arjun: (grinning) "But I’m okay with anything she chooses, as long as she likes it." Samay (teasing): "Wow, such a romantic answer, Mr. Almost Married. You’re really setting the bar high." Saloni: (smirking) "Exactly! Don’t expect us to find someone so cooperative, Mr. Hero. This is next-level dedication." After selecting a few dresses for Shreya and helping her finalize the perfect ones for the occasion, Saloni stood back with a satisfied smile, watching Shreya twirl in her chosen outfit. Shreya (grinning at Saloni): "Thank you, Wonder Queen! You’re the best at picking dresses. Now it’s your turn. Go on, choose something nice for yourself." Saloni (waving her hands dismissively): "Oh no, Shreya. We’re already running late! Look at the time—it’s almost closing hours. I’ll come back another day and buy something. We still have two days to prepare, remember?" But before Saloni could finish her excuse, Shreya’s expression turned mischievous. Shreya (crossing her arms): "No way, don’t even think about it! You’re not walking out of this mall empty-handed. Right, guys?" Samay (Mr. Hero, smirking): "Absolutely. Ms. Wonder Queen, if you can spend hours making me wait in traffic and then fall asleep in the car, you can definitely spare a few minutes for shopping." Arjun (chiming in with a grin): "Exactly. The mall’s not closing for another 30 minutes. We’re not leaving until you’ve picked something." Saloni (protesting): "Guys, I’m serious! I don’t need anything right now. Plus, shopping for myself takes forever. I’ll just come back later—" Shreya (grabbing Saloni’s hand): "No excuses! I’m dragging you to the racks myself. Come on!" Before Saloni could argue further, Shreya pulled her towards the women’s section, with Samay and Arjun following behind like amused spectators. Samay (teasing): "This is going to be fun. Let’s see how long it takes the Wonder Queen to decide." Saloni (sarcastically, while being led away): "Oh, you’re enjoying this, aren’t you, Mr. Hero? You better be ready to carry my shopping bags if this is what you all want." Arjun: "Fair deal! You pick, and he carries. Sounds perfect to me." After some back-and-forth, Saloni finally gave in and started browsing. Shreya (holding up a dress): "This one looks amazing! Try it on." Samay (holding another option): "Or this. Something tells me this one will make you look like an actual queen, Wonder Queen." Saloni (playfully annoyed): "You two are worse than personal shoppers. Fine, I’ll try them both. Happy now?" A little while later, Saloni came out of the trial room, wearing one of the dresses Shreya had chosen. Samay (pretending to adjust an invisible tie): "Not bad, Wonder Queen. I guess Shreya knows what she’s doing." Shreya (beaming): "Of course I do! Now, we just need to accessorize it. Come on, let’s find some matching jewelry!" Saloni (groaning, but smiling despite herself): "I should’ve just stayed asleep in the car." Samay (with a chuckle): "Nah, you’d still end up here somehow. Fate wouldn’t let you escape this." Saloni went back into the trial room to change, while Shreya wandered off to another section. A few moments later, Saloni’s voice echoed from behind the door. Saloni called out from the trial room, her voice more urgent this time. Saloni: "Shreya! Can you please come here? My dress is stuck in my hair, and I can’t fix it alone!" Samay, standing outside, looked around and replied, "Shreya’s not here, Wonder Queen. I’ll call her." He quickly dialed Shreya’s number, but it went unanswered. Samay (muttering to himself): "Of course, their phones are in the bags…" Samay (calling out): "Wonder Queen, no one’s answering. You’ll have to deal with Mr. Hero instead. What do you want me to do?" Saloni (sighing): "Ugh! Fine, but first… close your eyes before coming in! I’m serious!" Samay (laughing lightly): "Close my eyes? Alright, alright. I’m stepping in, eyes closed." He entered the trial room with his hands out in front of him like a cautious detective. Saloni (grabbing his hands and guiding them): "Here, the zip. My hair’s tangled in it, and if you mess up, I’m going to lose both my hair and my patience. So, be careful!" Samay (smirking): "Relax, Wonder Queen. I’ve got this. But, uh… how am I supposed to fix it with my eyes closed? Any idea?" Saloni (huffing): "Okay, fine. Open your eyes a little, but only look at my hair, alright? If I catch your eyes wandering anywhere else, trust me, Mr. Hero, you’re dead meat." Samay (teasing): "Oh, come on! Do you not trust me? I’m offended." Saloni (pointing a finger): "Trust? I’m giving you limited trust, not a free pass. Don’t make me regret it!" Samay opened his eyes just enough to see the tangled mess. He got to work carefully, untangling her hair strand by strand. Samay (while working): "Wow, Wonder Queen, you have so much hair. It’s like untangling a jungle." Saloni (rolling her eyes): "Less commentary, more fixing, Mr. Hero. And stop moving your hands so much!" Finally, after a few minutes of silent concentration, Samay freed her hair from the zip. Samay (grinning, leaning back slightly): "There you go, all done. And look—your hair’s still intact. I deserve a medal for this." Saloni (adjusting her dress, mock glaring): "A medal? You should be glad I’m not kicking you out of here for your jokes." As Samay stepped out of the trial room, he turned back with a playful smirk. Samay: "By the way, Wonder Queen, you owe me one. Next time, don’t get into a fight with your dress." Saloni (calling out, rolling her eyes again): "You’re impossible, Mr. Hero!" The tension melted into playful banter, and the two rejoined Shreya and Arjun outside the changing area.
