Shreya’s Mischievous Request

1000 Words
The wedding guests had said their goodbyes, and the evening was coming to an end. The lively chatter and laughter slowly faded, and people began to make their way out of the house, heading back to their homes. Saloni, having enjoyed the day and the celebrations, was about to leave as well. She was just about to grab her bag and head for the door when, in a playful move, Shreya snatched the car keys from her hand. Shreya: (grinning mischievously) "Nope, not so fast! You’re not going anywhere, got it? Not today, not tomorrow. You’re staying with me until my wedding." Saloni stood frozen for a moment, blinking in surprise. Saloni: (laughing, trying to take back the keys) "What? Shreya, I can’t. I’ve got work tomorrow. And I don’t have any clothes here. You can’t just keep me here like this." Shreya: (firmly holding on to the keys) "I will drop you off at your work every day until my wedding. You don’t even have to worry about that. And as for clothes—don’t be silly, we have so many clothes here. You can wear anything!" Saloni tried to argue again, shaking her head. Saloni: "But I really need to go home. I can’t just leave everything behind, and I’m sure you have enough to do on your own." Shreya’s tone shifted from playful to a little more serious, but still with that familiar stubbornness. Shreya: "Who will help me with all the shopping and wedding preparations? I don’t even have my mom here to help me, Saloni. I need you, okay? You’re my best friend, and I don’t want to miss you. Please, say yes. I’ll make it worth your while. We’ll have so much fun together." There was a soft pause. Shreya’s words hit Saloni deeper than she expected. She saw how much Shreya truly needed her support in this moment, how much she missed the presence of her mom. And Saloni couldn’t say no to her best friend, not when she needed her the most. Saloni: (sighing in resignation but with a warm smile) "Alright, alright! I’ll stay. But only because you’re so stubborn. You win." Shreya’s eyes lit up with happiness. Shreya: (hugging her tightly) "Yay! I promise you won’t regret this. We’re going to have so much fun!" Saloni walked into Shreya’s room, and the two of them immediately made themselves comfortable on the bed. The day had been a whirlwind of events, and now they were taking some time to unwind. Shreya was excitedly bouncing on the bed, eager to continue their conversation from earlier. Shreya: (grinning mischievously) "Alright, enough about the wedding for a minute. Let's talk about Samay! Tell me, how do you really feel about him?" Saloni laughed and rolled her eyes, knowing exactly where this conversation was headed. Saloni: (teasing) "You’ve got to stop playing matchmaker, Shreya. We’re just friends. Nothing more." Shreya: (playfully raising an eyebrow) "Uh-huh. Just friends, huh? You two definitely have some kind of... vibe. I can see it! You can deny it all you want, but I’m not buying it. So, what’s really going on? You’ve been a little quieter around him today." Saloni paused, her smile fading slightly as she thought about the moments she had shared with Samay. She hadn’t consciously noticed it, but Shreya was right—there was a certain quietness to her when Samay was around. A comfortable silence, yet something unspoken lingered between them. Saloni: (after a moment of reflection) "He’s... different. I mean, he's playful and carefree most of the time, but there's this side of him that's quiet and thoughtful. I don’t know... it’s hard to explain." Shreya leaned in, her curiosity piqued. Shreya: "You know, I’ve noticed that too. He’s always so full of energy, but there's a layer to him, isn’t there? I’m guessing you see that side when it’s just the two of you." Saloni smiled softly, her thoughts drifting to the times she’d caught glimpses of Samay’s deeper side, hidden behind his usual playful facade. She hadn’t shared those thoughts with anyone, but somehow, with Shreya, it felt easy to open up. Saloni: "Yeah, maybe. There’s something about him... like he has a lot going on inside but doesn’t always talk about it. It’s... interesting." Shreya: (nodding knowingly) "I get it. There’s more to him than meets the eye. But hey, enough about the serious stuff. Let’s talk about shopping! We’re going to have so much fun, I can already tell. Samay and Arjun are coming along, and it’s going to be chaos—good chaos, though!" Saloni chuckled, shaking her head at Shreya’s enthusiasm. Saloni: "You’re right about the chaos part. But honestly, it sounds fun. It’s been ages since I’ve gone shopping with friends." Shreya: (grinning) "Exactly! And don’t worry, we’ll pick you up at 4. We’ll get Samay first, then Arjun, and then you. We’ve got a lot to do, but we’ll make sure to enjoy it. Plus, you’ve got to help me pick out the perfect wedding outfit!" Saloni raised an eyebrow, grinning. Saloni: "Oh, I’m sure I’ll have lots of opinions on that! But honestly, I think you’re going to look amazing no matter what." Shreya beamed, obviously pleased by the compliment. Shreya: "I’m so glad you’re staying with me, Saloni. It’s going to be so much fun. And trust me, this shopping trip is going to be legendary. We’ll make memories for sure." Saloni: (smiling warmly) "Yeah, I’m looking forward to it." The two of them continued to chat, laughing and teasing each other as they made plans for the evening. Saloni couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace and happiness. Being around Shreya, who was always full of energy, was a reminder that, despite the busyness of life, there were moments of joy to be had. And maybe, just maybe, the upcoming shopping trip would bring more than just shopping—it might bring answers, fun, and, who knows, maybe a few surprises.
