Chapter Twenty Six: Crimson Requiem The air was heavy with smoke and silence. Aurora stood at the threshold of the battlefield, her boots sinking into mud slick with ash and blood. The remnants of the Crimson Fang’s latest assault lay scattered like broken promises—splintered trees, upturned stones, the scent of burnt fur and iron in the wind. She gripped the hilt of her dagger tighter, the silver biting into her palm as though reminding her: pain was still real, and it wasn’t over. Beside her, Kael crouched low, golden eyes narrowed, scanning the horizon with the tense alertness of a predator. He hadn’t spoken in minutes, but she could feel the weight of his worry like a storm cloud pressing against her skin. The bond between them hummed with warning. “They’re regrouping,” he muttered
