ADAM had never been good at patience. It wasn’t in his blood. When he wanted something, he went after it, and right now, what he wanted was the truth. NORA had looked him dead in the eye and pretended to be unshaken, but Adam knew better. He could smell fear like smoke — and she had been practically choking on it in that office. He leaned back in the leather seat of his car, watching the glow of his laptop screen. His contact had come through quicker than expected. A few phone calls, a favor owed, and now he had something. Not much — but enough. A name. A number. And a photograph that didn’t quite match the flawless story Tracy had swallowed whole. Jason.
