Albert tried to keep his promise. He took Emily to Scarborough for the weekend, where they watched the children with their buckets and spades building sandcastles. He could have taken her to Seaham or Whitley Bay but as it was their honeymoon, he thought it should be special so he forked out for a train from Ferryhill to take her somewhere none of her friends would have been. They had to change at Darlington and York and once at Scarborough, Albert wanted to drop the bag at the guest house near the station before they walked down to the bay.
