Kit stared in shock at the face in front of her. A face that was a copy of her own. Her voice trembled as she uttered the words.
- Your s-s-sister?
Lace looked back and forth at the young women and finally understood.
- Twins. You are twins.
- I have a sister?
Kit spoke the words again without understanding them at first. She met Sol's smiling gaze and within her it felt as if something had finally fallen into place. She laughed and exclaimed happily.
- I have a sister.
- But Sol. There is no way that you and Deó could have survived out here alone.
- They didn’t. They've had me.
A melodious voice was heard and from the shadows in the back of the cave another woman came forward. She was dressed in the same white dress as Sol and she also had a dark cape over her shoulders. Her long, light hair was bound by a white silk band and hung lightly over her back. There was something timeless over her face and she didn't look much older than Sol and Kit. It was only in her sparkling blue eyes that one could imagine her true age. She stopped in front of Lace and smiled kindly as she reached out a hand.
- You're Lace, I guess.
Lace stared as if bewitched at the woman's face mesmerised by her beauty until she raised her eyebrows and turned to Kit.
- Is he ok?
The words broke Lace from his spell and he quickly dropped to one knee.
- Lady Y'zora. I am honored to be in your presence.
- Oh I had forgotten about that.
Y'zora rolled her eyes and sighed before holding out her hands to Lace.
- Lace please stop that and get up.
- As you wish Lady Y'zora.
- And call me Y'zora.
She smiled softly and as he nodded and stood up she turned to look at Kit.
- So you're Kit.
Her smile didn’t fade so Kit nodded slowly and couldn't help but to smile back. Y'zora reached out a hand and touched the young woman's cheek softly as she examined her face.
- When Sol started talking about a sister I knew you would look alike but I never expected twins.
- But Lady Y'zora ...
Lace was interrupted as Y'zora turned to face him and raised an eyebrow lightly. He was embarrassed before he continued to speak.
- Forgive me. I mean Y'zora but how did you find Sol and Deó?
- I dragged Deó ashore from an underground stream and she led me straight to Sol. From the day she learned to talk, she talked about her sister.
She tenderly put her hand on Sol's shoulder and Lace turned to Sol intrigued at how she would possess the knowledge at that young age since Kit had only been a few weeks old when he found her.
- How could you know you had a sister?
- I just knew. As far back as I can remember I have known that my sister has been somewhere out there and that I had to find her.
He looked at Y'zora who shrugged her shoulders.
- I've never been able to understand it all.
- But I think I do.
Kit took her sister's hand and held it between both of hers.
- I've felt the same thing except that I didn't know I had a sister. All my life I have known that there has been something that was taken from me and that I would never feel complete if I didn't find it. Now I know what it was.
- Y'zora why don't we let the girls get to know each other a little. And I believe that we need to talk too.
Quietly murmuring, they went to the back of the cave and left the girls alone.
Kit couldn't stop looking at her newfound sister who lovingly looked back at her.
- How could you know about me while I had no idea that you existed?
- It probably has something to do with my powers as a seer. They make me know some things instinctively.
- Do you know who our parents are?
Sol sighed and lowered her head.
- No and nor do I know why we were left in the mountains. If it wasn't for our beautiful and wise friends, none of us would be alive now.
She pulled her hand softly over Deó's coat and then smiled.
- You've seen their eyes, right?
- Don't you think it's a little strange. I mean, we all have the same eye color.
- I think that is a sign that we are meant to be together. Maybe that's why they knew where we were and could save us. But don't say anything to Lace and Yzza. They probably think it was them who saved us.
Sol said it with a small wink and they both started laughing. Kit smiled and gage her sister a hug.
- I'm so glad we found each other.
Sol smiled and pulled out something from a pocket.
- That reminds me. I have something for you.
She held up a leather strap and in it hung a star-shaped sparkling white stone. She hung it around Kit’s neck.
- One day I found a stone on the ground. When I held it in my hand it changed and became two stars. I knew this one was meant for you.
Sol pulled on the leather strap that hung around her own neck, showing the identical stone that was there.
- You got the other one.
Kit smiled and looked over at where Lace and Y'zora stood and talked eagerly.
- What do you think they're talking about?
- I don't know, but it looks like they are done now.
Lace and Y’zora returned to the fire and Lace began to speak.
- So there are a few things we need to figure out girls.
The sisters looked at each other and said simultaneously.
- And that is?
- The most important thing is why you were left in the mountains. Since the person who left you there must have known that the chance that someone would find you was minimal, it probably meant that you wouldn't survive.
- But why would anyone want to kill us when we were just a few weeks old?
- That's one thing that we need to find out. Kit remove your glove please.
Kit looked at Lace, hesitantly, at Y’zora’s words but he just nodded reassuringly.
- Do as she says my girl.
Reluctantly Kit did as she was asked and removed her glove. Y’zora took her hand and examined the clear skin on the back of her hand. She smiled and gave her hand a pat.
- Just as I thought. Sol remove yours too.
Only when Sol took off the skin-colored gloves did Kit realise that her sister also wore gloves. And when she showed the back of her hands Lace gasped.
