- I don't understand why Chira had to leave with the ball so close by.
Worgan sighed heavily as he took another look at the menu that Garrett had handed him. Garrett raised an eyebrow and tried to hold back a smile when the king rolled his eyes.
- Yes of course I know why she had to leave Garret. No need for that look. She is Just much better at these things.
- Your Majesty is doing an excellent job.
- Thank you Garrett but we both know that Chira would be doing it better.
- Of course she would. She is a queen after all.
The melodious voice came from behind them and Worgan turned around in surprise to see the young woman standing in the middle of the throne room. Her thick golden hair lay gathered over one of her shoulders. Her blue eyes sparkled as did her smile when she walked over to them.
- Hello uncle.
- Genevie!
Worgan laughed and stretched out his arms to pull her in a tight hug. Garrett bowed silently before leaving the room.
- It's so nice to see you again my dear niece. It’s been way too long since last time.
- It's always nice to be here dear uncle. So where did Chira go?
- Her niece has just had a baby and the pregnancy has not been easy for her. But you must know this already considering that it is your future sister-in-law?
He looked surprised at her and she shook her head and put a fingertip against an eyebrow with a foolish smile.
- Of course I do. Things have just been so busy at home with all the attacks from the gords that I never thought about it being Termilyn’s baby.
- Well there is no better then my Chira when it comes to healing herbs.
- That is a well-known fact throughout the realms uncle and when that day comes for me, I hope she can be by my side.
- That day will come soon enough my dear. Your marriage is well into summer is it not?
- Yes it is. I hope you can come?
Worgan draped an arm over her shoulder and gave her a reassuring squeeze.
- I promise you that nothing can stop us from coming. Now how is my sister doing?
Genevie leaned against her uncle and sighed sadly.
- There is still no change I'm afraid. It's been two years and every day is the same. She just sits and stares out the window. She doesn't even want to look at me while I'm there.
- Ynnes has always been a fragile woman. Your father's death took her hard.
- I don't think I'll ever understand why my own uncle murdered my father. And mother ... I just wish there were more I could do for her.
Worgan turned to face the young woman and placed his hands on her shoulders.
- Genevie you are doing the best you can and you’re providing her with the best care possible. It is a great responsibility and work to rule a kingdom. Sadly you can not put your kingdom on hold because of your mother's mental state. Your people are trusting you to lead them and you must put your people's welfare first. Once you’re married you might have more time to spend with your mother.
- I hope so. Geron is a great support.
- He’s a good man and he will be a good prince for your kingdom.
- But that's not why I marry him.
- I know my girl and I know that your father would be happy that you found a man to love as much as he did your mother.
- Thank you uncle.
- On a more serious note tho I would like to discuss the threat that the gords pose with you Genevie.
- Can't that wait father? She just got here.
Genevie turned around smiling before rushing across the room and with a happy scream she threw herself in Cade's arms. He spun her around once before setting her down and taking a step back.
- You look brilliant cousin.
- That's all thanks to that wonderful fiance of mine.
- Geron is a lucky man.
- You should really try falling in love, Cadenor. It is a wonderful feeling.
- Yeah I think I'll wait a while with that.
A faint smile appeared on her lips when she noticed the quick glance Cadenor lade towards the young woman next to him.
- Really? Is that so?
Cade sighed and shook his head.
- Oh no Gen. I recognize that look. What kind of idea have you gotten in that head of yours now?
- No one at all dear cousin.I was just wondering where your manners have gone or if you're not gonna introduce me to this girl.
- Of course I will. Genevie this is Kit. Kit this is my pest of a cousin Queen Genevie of Derian.
Kit stared in shock at Cade over the fact that he called a queen pest. Genevie however seemed to take it with ease as she laughed at him but continued to look at Kit with a curious glint in her eyes. Quickly Kit attempted to do some kind of curtsy.
- It's an honor your majesty.
- Please call me Genevie. I have a feeling we will get to know each other pretty good but I'm curious Kit. How did you meet my scoundrel of a cousin?
- I rode into his camp.
- Unconscious and with Crayden's soldiers on her heels.
Cade muttered the words and Genevie looked stock.
- Crayden! How in the name of the gods did you end up there?
- I ...
- Genevie!
Both Worgan and Cade interrupted the young queen and she looked forgivingly at Kit.
- I'm sorry Kit. Forget that I asked. My fiance says I'm a bit too curious at times.
- It doesn't matter. I managed to escape from there.
Genevie's eyes lit up and she gavs Kit a bright smile. In that moment Kit realised that she liked the young queen of Derian.
- I like her Cadenor. A girl who can get away from Crayden is something extra. You can tell me all about it later.
The last words where a loud whisper and when both Worgan and Cade moaned Kit couldn't help but to laugh.
