On the seagulls deck, Keadra and the rest of the crew watched as the flames grew higher and spread across the island. The smoke spread over the sea and settled thickly over the surface of the waves. A low murmur spread among the men.
- The island is burning!
- Do you think anyone survived?
- It moves in the smoke.
One of the sailors pointed out over the railing and shouted.
- I see them! Over there!
Cheers rose among the men as the small boat slipped out of the smoke and when it docked at the ship Keadra shouted.
- Well don’t just stand there! Get them on board!
The men rushed to the scaffolding and threw the ropes down to the boat below. The thick ropes cracked as they tightened and the boat was slowly hoisted up. The water flowed along the underside of the boat and formed a puddl
