Chapter 29It was raining. I could hear the drops tapping on the window, and for some reason, it made me sad. I looked out of a third floor window into the gloom. Vampires could go out in this, in the middle of the day, if they really wanted to, or had to. It was Sunday, a nurse had told me. Two days ago, I was fighting for my life. I'd lost a lot of blood and a day, I guess. I'd been in surgery yesterday, and had been in a groggy stupor since, and only this morning I'd come around fully. I was aware of only a slight pain, but it wasn't bad, since the nurses had given me something for it in my drip. I didn't ask what, but it was terrific.
