Celeste
I thought maybe if I pretended that I thought Axel was Eagan he would be too confused to continue whatever his stupid mission was.
“Celeste, can I speak to you privately?” Axel was clearly trying to win me over or something for his brother. I glanced to Isla and Alice. They nodded encouraging me to speak with this devilishly handsome creature.
He had to know who I was solely based on the fact that I slept with his elder brother.
“Sure,” I said. I only agreed to this to take off the social and public pressure of this encounter. I looked around to all the merpeople and others that were near. The restaurant was packed, and they were all watching us. Of course the prince would have all eyes on him.
Girls were oogling, whispering to their friends and pointing. I felt a wave of annoyance and possession hit me.
Axel grabbed my hand and led me to one of the private cabanas. He handed the attendant a wad of cash and closed the curtain.
“What is this all about?” i asked quizzically.
He grinned at me. “You know I’m not Eagan, right? You don’t have to be so harsh with me.”
“I know. I could tell as soon as I saw you for some reason.” I admitted. My stupid mouth always blabbing and ruining my calculated plans. He seemed pleased by this, a smug smile reached his ears.
I sat down on the large lounge chairs and crossed my arms on my chest. Suddenly I was very aware that I was scantily covered in a dress Isla had loaned me.
“So tell me, what are you really doing here Axel?”
Axel sat down next to me. My body warmed and tingled at the idea that we may touch. “Well, honestly. My brother is incredibly upset that you left. I’ve never seen him so distraught.” He picked up a glass of champagne and swallowed it in one sip. “And I wanted to come hear your side of the story.”
My nose wrinkled at that. “What do you mean? We barely know each other. We had s*x. That’s it.” I feigned confusion.
I knew why Eagan was upset, he was my fated mate. But something inside of me refused to believe that just because the moon goddess decided to pair an alpha king with a human meant that everything would turn out.
Axel narrowed his eyes at me. “You didn’t feel a deep connection beyond that?” Was he testing me?
I sighed loudly. “Well-”
“Well what Celeste? I don’t have the patience to beat around the bush right now. He told me that you’re his mate. Just because you’re a human doesn’t mean you can’t feel some sort of connection beyond s*x!” Axels voice was thick with passion.
His strong voice was arousing me. I seemed to be liking all of this intense drama a little too much. Why was Eagans brother also making me feel this way?
“I realized what was happening after we had s*x. Eagan had muttered ‘My mate’ before he dozed off.” My hand found his arm and rested itself there. “I wasn’t trying to hurt your brother. I’m just terrified. I never thought I’d be fated to a freaking werewolf! I’m just a human!”
Our touch sent more shocks of pleasure up my arms. His eyes were wandering over my body, looking at my full breasts.
Was I attracted to him because he looked identical to Eagan?
He pulled away from me. “No. Nope. This is not happening.”
“What Axel?”
His eyes darkened. Mind-linking, of course. Wolves and their weird powers. “You’re my mate too..” he breathed softly.
I stood up. There was absolutely no way that could be true. Could wolves share mates? What kind of sick joke was the Goddess playing on us.
“I’m telling you right now because I deeply respect my brother, but my wolf is trying to come out and claim you. That only happens when they find their mates. We are instinctual creatures.” He said, joining me on his feet.
It wasn’t just his appearance drawing me in. It was his distinct musk scent. It was his sheer existence.
“I.. I don’t know how this is possible Axel,” His green eyes lit up at the sound of his name rolling off my tongue.
He reached out to my face. His hand caressed my cheek. There was a hint of hesitation in his movements. Not like Eagan who had been quick to place his hands all over my body. The warmth traveled down to my core, moistening me further.
“I can’t,” Axel growled, pulling his hand away and creating some distance between us. He started pacing, back and forth in the small cabana. “Eagan will be absolutely devastated.” Axel was not there with me in that moment. He was deep in thought.
I reached towards him, trying to calm his agitation. Something inside me hurt seeing Axel in such distress. “Hey, why don’t we go back to the castle? Talk with your brother?” I asked. I was not sure why I would suggest such a thing after putting so much effort into getting away from all this wolf drama.
“Really? You’re offering to go back? What’s the catch? I thought I was going to have to drag you back against your will!” Axel snorted, his entire body began to relax.
I laughed and walked towards the curtain door. “Only if I can bring Alice. She needs to keep me in check.”
