In Hiding

Celeste The beast of a man dozed off, as sheer panic set in. His arm was slung heavily around me. Mates? I was his fated mate? No friggin way. My mind raced, trying to figure out what to do. Stay. The voice in my head commanded me, but I was too stressed to even listen to her. There was no way this situation would turn out, a human commoner FATED to an Alpha King. There would only be heartbreak, as his family would never allow such an atrocity. I slowly and methodically slipped out from Eagan’s grasp. He only stirred a little, shifting to his back as he began to snore lightly. Luckily I knew how to move quietly, growing up in the strict orphanage lended me that skill. I quickly laced up the top of my dress. The dark room was only lit by the glass door that had curtains. I grabbed for my cape silently while trying to not wake the beast. What the hell was wrong with me? Going home with a strange werewolf? Losing my virginity to a fated-king? It was a f*****g death sentence. I quickly found my boots, tied them up and slunk through the door. I had no clue which direction I needed to go once outside. I couldn’t just go back to the hostel. I had stupidly told him where I stayed. Go back. The stupid voice in my head urged me to stay with Eagan. There was no way I was doing that, not as I began to run towards the walls of the castle, my legs were moving as fast as they could. If Eagan woke up and realized I was gone, I thought my fate would be sealed. His wolf-rage would punish me in some unimaginable way. I got to the front of the walls, where the main gate stood, and saw another large black werewolf trotting in, he looked identical to Eagan’s wolf. I froze. It had to be one of the other brothers. Maybe he didn’t notice me? … Jonas I spotted a cloaked girl running across the grounds. Odd. Was it one of Eagan’s playthings? I chuckled to myself, and shifted into my human-like form, and then got irritated that he would just send her off like that. She was clearly lost and trying to leave. “Hello!” I yelled to her, waving my hands up. I stalked towards her, as she had frozen in her spot. Women usually fell to our feet, whatever species they were. She definitely smelt like a human. I sniffed the air as I got closer again, and the human had an incredibly irresistible scent of honey and roses. But it was covered up mostly by the scent of my eldest brother, he was all over her. Bingo, Eagan’s plaything. I was right! She didn’t move when I neared her, almost as if trying to pretend I didn’t see her. I couldn’t get much of a look, as her hood was nearly covering her face. “Hey, are you lost?” I said addressing her again. My heart dropped as I felt a wave of pure terror wash over the girl. “I’m so sorry, your highness. I’m in a terrible rush. I just got word that one of my dear friends are ill.” Her shaky voice hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn’t tell if she was scared or upset, but my inner wolf did not like that. He howled at me to ease this girls troubles. I stood a few paces away from her, showing that I meant no harm. “Where are you headed to?” From this distance I could see that her icy blue eyes were trained on my face in a way I hadn’t been accustomed to from women. No, she was seeing my brother, undoubtedly. My heart ached for her. Clearly her encounter with Eagan turned sour. How dare he treat this beautiful creature in such a manner. “I need to get to Faerendale as fast as I can!” She practically pleaded with me. Her human form would take hours to trudge through The Enchanted Forest on her own, and no young girl she be playing about in there. I decided then that I would help her in whatever way I could. She’s delectable, even scared. My wolf noted. He was truly a beast sometimes. “I can take you, in my car. It’ll be fast.” She nodded hesitantly. “My name is Jonas, the youngest brother.” I added, hoping she knew I meant no harm and wouldn’t bother her like my elder siblings. “Celeste.” She said, almost knocking the breath right out of me. True beauty. … Celeste I reluctantly took the near-clone of Eagan’s help; he seemed different and less intense than his brother. My mind and body prayed to the Goddess that he wouldn’t try to mind-link his brother and bust me. There was something softer about Jonas, I realized as he led me to his sports car. He moved lighter. He radiated a calm and sweet personality. In no time we arrived at the gates of Faerendale, and I waved him off. Jonas sped away back towards the castle. His bright blue car leaving dust in its tracks. I could finally breath a sigh of relief. My mind wasn’t preoccupied on Eagan now. Instead I was thinking of his younger brother. It was incredibly weird that Jonas had calmed my brain enough to stop focusing on every detail of Eagan’s steamy run in. I shook my head and continued into the gates of one of my favorite towns in The Gorge. I knew the streets by heart, I knew exactly how to find Alice. The roads were winding and packed with tiny houses, they were all rustic and covered in cute decorations and draping plants. The Fae were known to be collectors of trinkets and items that they enjoyed. It was something out of a fairytale book. Fae were incredibly sweet and kind natured people. In their human form, most of them had naturally wild colored hair. They were generally tiny even in their humanoid appearance. I was noticed by some of the regular Fae’s that I saw, all biding me sweet greetings as I made my way up the hill towards Alice. I smiled and made quick conversation. I was in a rush but couldn’t bring myself to being rude to their respective culture. At last, I came upon the wooden structure that housed my sweet friend. Her front yard had a mushroom garden, which since the last time I had visited had grown astronomically. There were glowing kinds speckled throughout, and rocks of all types sprinkled here and there. Quartz, amethyst and crystals. The door swung open to reveal my cute friend, her long purple hair slung up into a large messy bun. She was in her human form, and looked as if she had been expecting me. “My dearest sister Celeste! Happy birthday!!” She squealed. Her arms wrapped around me pulling me in tight. I chuckled and pulled back. Alice had been a few years older than I, and had always treated me like a little sister. She and I had left the orphanage together, and she had found some sweet Fae to take her in and teach her more of the Fae-way. “Hello Alice, I’ve missed you dearly!” Her purple-tinted eyes lit up. “I’ve been expecting you, it’s very unlike you to miss a birthday visit.” I sighed, we had always celebrated together. She smiled lightly, but then realized how distressed I must’ve looked. Her eyes darted to my mud covered cloak and she dropped my hood, revealing my messy locks. A few tears escaped my eyes. “I need to call the hostel and let Hali know that I won’t be returning,” my nose sniffled at the thought. “And I can’t stay here too long.” With that I broke down. Alice ushered me in, offering me a drink and some tissues. I sat down and explained everything. My chance meeting with Eagan, his confession that I was his fated mate. Our hot and steamy endeavors. Jonas and his kindness. She reached over and wiped tears from my eyes, her delicate features appearing scared for me. “Oh Celeste, what a birthday.” Her small hands rested on my arm. “We can go for an adventure, run away from here!” Alice stood up, quickly grabbing any items she thought we would need. I called Hali, but she hadn’t answered, it was 4pm by now. She must’ve been cooking dinner for the guests. I left a message on the answering machine “I’m so sorry, I will explain everything one day. I won’t be returning. Not for a while”. And with that, Alice and I set out to explore The Gorge. Into hiding I went.
