The detective bureau was a vast open space with desks placed in seemingly random locations and files inhabited every inch of horizontal space. The conversion to paperless files was a slow process, particularly given that detectives took handwritten notes as part of their DNA and there was insufficient staff to input all of their observations and conclusions into electronic format.
“I need to see Gray and Butler before I meet with the Chief,” Lieutenant Spencer said, standing at the door to his officer.
