Chapter Twenty-SixTwenty Days After There was no scheduling of a meeting and no warning of any kind. That's the way the FBI did things, even with its own employees. It was 3:00 p.m. when Paul Mason was told to report for meeting with the Director and the Deputy Director. He walked to the designated conference room and knocked. “Come in.” Director Michael Sayer spoke as he entered the conference room. “Good afternoon, Paul. Take a seat.” “Good afternoon, sir.” “Hi, Paul,” Deputy Director Mitch Tanner said. “Hello, Mr. Tanner.” These were top managers that Paul knew well from group presentations and policy discussions that involved numerous agents, but he didn't know them well and had spent no time with them one on one.
