Chapter 3: Rejected Mate

Mave "Why are you doing this?" I asked through our mind link. He might not be in front of me but I knew he was close enough to hear me. "Why are you here?" He countered. "Just passing through." I told him."Bullshit." He walked into the room. "Unchain me." I tried. "Do it yourself." He was staring into my eyes. I could see the hurt. Scarlett I woke up groggy and handcuffed to a wall. The silver burning my wrists and ankles. A smell hit me, it was like a cologne only stronger. But I was still too out of it to place the scent. I opened my eyes and there was a tall man staring at Mave. I recognized him from the diner. I looked around and panic settled in. "Where's my daughter?!" I yelled at the man. "Ah you're awake." He wouldn't look at me. "Where is my daughter?" I demanded. "She's safe." He answered, still staring at Mave. "Why are we here?" This time the man laughed, I'd say it was a nice laugh if I wasn't held captive. "Why don't you ask your friend here?" Mave "Where's Adi?" I asked through mind link. "She's fine. I wouldn't hurt a child you should know that." I closed my eyes, still feeling his breath on me. I did know that. I knew it too well. "I know." I looked down ashamed. "Why don't you ask your friend?" I snapped out of our mind link when he talked to Scar this time. "He's my rejected mate." I felt his pain. He still hadn't gotten over it. Truth was neither did I. Not truly. "You chose my f*****g brother over me!" He screamed in my face and I flinched. "What?" Scar was confused. He removed the chains, before walking out of the room. I crouched down holding my head in my hands crying. "Where's my daughter Mave?" Scar was terrified. Little did she know despite her situation right now she couldn't have been safer. "She's ok. He wouldn't hurt her." I was hoping that would be enough. But it wasn't. "How do you know?" She asked and I stood up. I had my arms crossed against my chest, hugging myself. "We had a son. Soon after he turned 2 there was an attack." I could hear him crying in the hall, I could envision him standing against the wall. Reliving this moment like I was. "One day my brother Cole took our son outside pack borders to pick berries. It was their favorite thing to do together. All of the sudden a pack we never saw before attacked out of nowhere. We ran outside pack borders but we weren't fast enough. We watched as our son was ripped apart. We couldn't get to him fast enough." I finished before taking a deep breath. "After we lost our son we couldn't even look at each other, our mate bond grew weak. It didn't help when someone ordered my brother and his mate to be hunted down and executed." I shot the hall area where he was in a dirty look. One day Raiden's brother came to visit, I never met him before but when we locked eyes I looked into the eyes of my mate." I heard Raiden storming back in the room. "You had a mate. I was your mate!" He yelled in my face. "Oh please you have another f*****g mate!" I yelled right back. I didn't fear him. I knew he'd never hurt me. No matter if our mate bond was gone we still cared for one another. "Wait how do you both have 2 mates?" Scar asked. "The alpha bloodline in the Zephyr pack was granted 2 mates by a powerful Witch named Marsula. Marsula granted them this when Raiden's father spared Marsula's life. Then she vanished to never be seen again leaving her daughter and son behind." I looked at the ground. "Wait." Scar looked at me question filling her eyes. "She left her daughter behind with the gift of 2 mates as well. I'm Marsula's daughter." I finished. "But I thought your parents were psychopath werewolves not witches." Scar was confused, who wouldn't be. "After seeing Levi and realizing we were mates I fell in love. Raiden never made me his luna which made breaking our already fragile mate bond easy. I moved away and started living with Levi in the city, he wanted a normal life and after losing my son I wanted that more than anything. Then I was captured by Azazel, I was held captive for a year, until I escaped. The day I escaped I ran into Scarlett. While I was captured by Azazel I learned that I was his daughter." I looked up at them waiting for a response. "Why did you stay with me when you had a mate?" Scarlett asked me. "I Was informed that Raiden killed his brother." I said with venom. "Oh I killed the boring Levi you knew and made him my beta." I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders. My mate wasn't dead. "I could never kill my brother." Raiden stated. "Just mine." I countered. "Yours stood there while our son got ripped to pieces, Mave, I was heartbroken." I knew I couldn't blame him. "Wait so your brother was a werewitch too?" Scar asked. "Yeah but he never liked to use his powers." I told her. "Sounds like you, I didn't even know you were part witch." She stumped, I could tell. "My brother and I were a lot alike. Except our mother only granted 1 of us with the ability of 2 mates. Me." I told her. "Why only you?" She asked. "She gave me 2 mates in case I was mated to one of the Zephyr brothers. I just so happened to be mated to both." I shrugged. "Can I be released now?" I asked, wiggling my fingers. "Yes." Raiden turned towards me. His eyes met mine. They were crystal blue, suddenly it was like we were the only 2 in the room. I didn't know what this feeling was, this feeling of belonging. It wasn't the mating feeling, I had that already. When Ryan and I met 7 years ago it was like my skin was on fire, my mind was swimming, and it was fireworks. This was like a comforting feeling, not sparky but like taking a ride on the lazy river in the summer with a gentle breeze washing over me, like a warm hug. Maybe I finally found my pack? He was the alpha after all. He held my gaze for a while before finally releasing me. "Thanks." I said softly while trying to act like I was completely unfazed by his being so close. Fresh rain, he smelled like fish rain and cologne. "Why are you really here?" He snapped me from my thoughts. He was looking into my eyes but I looked away. "I'm trying to find my mate. I thought he was dead but I've been getting dreams lately and then a note from him saying he's alive." He looked hurt but nodded in understanding. Raiden I looked into her eyes, they were a deep purple. I breathed in her scent. She smelled like fresh berries after it rained. I knew at that moment she was my mate. "Why are you really here?" I asked her. I don't know what I hoped to hear but what she said next definitely wasn't it. "I'm trying to find my mate. I thought he was dead but I've been getting dreams lately and then a note from him saying he's alive." I tried to mask the hurt from showing but I didn't think it was convincing. She wasn't the first mate to not want me. At Least she met him first. I nodded my head in understanding. Everybody was looking for their mate but I was never going to be with mine. Either one. Scarlett "Where's my daughter?" I asked, he started walking out of the room, Mave and I followed. We followed him to the kitchen where my daughter sat on a stool with a plate of cookies and a glass of milk in front of her. "She asked if she could have cookies and I couldn't say no to her. I hope you don't mind. I made sure she had a hearty meal before giving her dessert." Raiden looked at me for approval. "Thank you for taking such good care of her." I said looking at him. "Of course." He bowed his head at me. "Mommy I like it here. Is he my daddy?" My daughter broke my heart. I saw Raiden walk out of the room a sad look on his face. He probably wished he was able to be a father to his son. I felt for their loss. Mave followed him with a comforting hand on his shoulder. I didn’t know if history was done for them, I had hope for them to work out. Sorry Levi I thought. "No sweetheart but you will meet your daddy soon. I hope." I added the last part softly. "We can stay in one of the guest rooms. Raiden sent some of his guys to get our bags." Mave told Me. "Where did they put it? We should start heading out." I said ready to find Adira's father. "Raiden locked the car away until the morning. He said it's not safe to drive at night especially around here." She explained. I nodded, normally I'd fight but tonight I was too tired to fight and probably too drugged to drive safely. Adira and I followed Mave to the room. "You're not going to sleep with your mate?" I asked Mave and she shook her head no. "Not tonight, I don't want to wake him." She continued to get into her pajamas and climb in bed. I got Adira ready and then myself before climbing into the bed next to her and drifting off to sleep.
