Always On My Mind By INNA ||
|| Ares's POV ||
I knew from the beginning that her answer would always be yes. A broken heart, burning anger, these stages of her emotions could give her one simple solution __ revenge. I might have sounded selfish, too egoistic to ensure my No.1 position but honestly, I didn't give f**k about anything except her. With my current personality, It was the only option left for me to bring her closer to me. I wasn't sure about the outcome or whether she would fall in love with me or not, but it was worth trying with her.
I wasn't a man to settle down for a family but one person could change anything. It was her, the day she blew air on my ache, I figured out that she was special to me. Maybe I would think about that warm house if she stayed by my side. Hence, Savannah and I came to reach a mutual agreement. We would be friends in private but lovers in public. If my eyes didn't catch wrong, she looked a bit nervous when I joked around, telling her that what if she falls for this playboy. The game seems fun to me but if she is the trophy, I can play until my dead end.
Aria's voice pulled me back to reality. She just creaked open the door, squeezing past the little space. She questioned for the hundredth time in a day,
" You two are dating seriously?"
My sister, Aria still couldn't process the fact that Savannah and I had become an official couple now. We decided to keep it secret from Aria as my mature feminist sister would never approve of such a playing relationship. I approached her concern for Savannah but sometimes, I doubted whether she was my biological sister or not because she kept worrying for Savannah more than me.
I shook my head helplessly. Reaching out to pick up my training bag, I responded fidgeting with the straps on my shoulder,
" Can you stop being too nagging? Hasn't Savannah confessed to you already?"
She exhaled through her mouth deeply. Pacing over to plop down on my couch, she grumbled shooting her suspicious glare at me,
" Ah... Yes...She did but things feel too surreal to me now. I mean, I am happy for both of you but Savannah didn't like you from the beginning. What changed all of sudden? The relationship is a huge step, Ares. I don't want you to play with her heart. She has been broken already."
I spun around to face my noisy sister. Fixing the strap on my shoulder, I replied running a quick swipe through my curls,
" I can't promise to make her happy but it's the truth that I will never break her intentionally."
It was words of my heart. Perhaps we started recklessly but I was sure that I am going to make my princess fall in love with me a hundred percent. Going over the doorway, I was about to slide it open when Aria spoke again, forcing me to halt in my track,
" Ares, do you think that Mom will be able to make up for my birthday this year? I promised Lucas to introduce you to my family."
The excitement of spending time with Savannah had slipped out of my mind. I held the doorknob tightly. Each year, Aria wished to have our parents at her birthday but it never happened. Because their jobs mattered to them more than their children. I didn't know how to console Aria but I turned with a smile, passing her an assuring look,
" So what if she can't manage to come? I am here as your closest family, Aria. You can call Lucas to come over anytime."
Lucas was the boy from Rainbow whom she had been seeing for a few months. They weren't officially dating but I could say that my sister liked that round-glassed boy who spend half of his day in reading. I had no objections to her choice as long as she was happy with the guy, she chooses. From my brother's instinct, I did a background check on Lucas and found him cool without any bad history.
Aria gave me a lopsided as she knew that she would never be her priority. Before I had spilled out something more offensive, I winked at her, blurting out before taking my leave,
" Anyways, it's time for my official introduction to my girlfriend. Gotcha goes, Sister."
Aria made a noise behind my back but I was already running late hence I left her squirming alone there.

The sun wasn't visible in Roseville's field today. Clouds played a lousy game with the scorching sun and made it nearly impossible to pop out and bright immensely. I had come to practice with our neighbor club, the NCK which belonged to Finn. Occasionally, NCK and HLG played a friendly match to improve our skills. Today wasn't different but something was going to be special for me.
My official girlfriend was going to make her first appearance to support my time. Though I had sent her reminders to appear earlier, she wasn't still there nearby anywhere. Despite my absolute concentration on the game, my eyes kept returning to the gallery where HLG's fan had taken their positions.
Kelly's unnecessary yellings chirped from backstage, practically annoying and overacting. I didn't know until today that people could be so shameless like her. She was dating her best friend's boyfriend but had no guilt on her face.
Savannah was right! She was a snake!
The game had just begun to turn exciting since Finn and I started competing for the goals. Finn was a little aggressive with his action today. I counted it as a result of discovering me with Savannah back at that time. I wondered what would be his reaction if he found out about us dating officially now. His reaction would be priceless to see.
Several minutes after I immersed myself in playing, my eyes refocused on the gallery, spotting the most expected person that I wanted this day. Savannah was finally there in the gallery. Her hair hanging down, and even from far away, I could tell that she was a bit shivering. I didn't even notice that when the weather turned so chilly. I guess, it was the play that kept me hotter than other people around.
Our eyes connected and I gave her a wicked grin. She smiled back stiffly, allowing her eyes to drop down. I knew she was nervous but I was going to change that today. After another period of playing, my eyes traveled back to fall on Savannah who didn't, finding her again sitting with an emotionless face. After another observant look, I noticed that she wasn't sitting in the rows of HLG'S supporters but with those NCK's supporters who cheered for Finn most of the time.
I didn't know if she did it on purpose or not but a peeve of jealousy formed inside my heart. She agreed to date me right? Then why was she sitting with those supporters?
It wasn't her place now. She belonged to stay by my side. I pushed myself to pay attention to the game but the discomfort kept lingering inside my mind. Above all, I had to keep myself calm until the break time came, asking the players to take a break from our play.
I whipped around to find Savannah at her earlier place. Ignoring the chatter behind me, I took my walk straight her way. The supporters burst into chirps and laughter as I made my way into the gallery. Some of the girls began to scream, telling me how much they loved my physiques.
Savannah looked a bit shocked and squirmed at her spot. She didn't expect me to come as it was never in our plan to converse with each other in front of the full gallery. Only the meeting with my other members was included in our plan but her position got on my nerves.
I paced through the crowd, squeezing past to stand right in front of her seat. She blinked up to stare at my face, confusion puzzled across her feature. I mouthed shooting her a scornful look,
" Why are you sitting here, Princess?"
Her eyes slightly dilated, realizing what she had done. The noises around us became quiet a little as everyone inspected us like aliens. I pointed at the rows, reserved for the die-hard fans of HLG,
" You should be there."
She appeared a bit embarrassed and I believed that it wasn't intentional since she had been a loyal supporter of NCK for years. Habit needed time to change and she got up obediently to follow my instruction. Her lips stretched, a proud smile forming at her lips as she replied sweetly,
" Sorry, Ares. I didn't know about the reserved area. Shall we go now?"
I smiled back widely, taking her palms into mine as the crowd burst into a whisper.
