Grace;
It’s Monday morning, and I woke up with knots in my stomach. I was nervous to go into work today. One I didn’t know if I even have a job anymore and two the fact I haven’t seen or spoken to Luke since I left his place on thanksgiving. I grabbed my phone and seen Andrew texted me.
Andrew: Goodmorning beautiful. Good luck today, let me know if you need to talk. I’m here.
Andrew ended up helping me move into Abby’s, and we had a good talk. I basically told him about my relationship with Luke, and what happened exactly and that’s I’m not ready for anything. He understood and told me we are still friends. I got up and got ready for work, Abby and Matt were already gone for work, and I don’t have a key to their place yet, so I tripled checked I had everything before I left. I ran out the door and got into my car, stop at Starbucks and got my usual. Once I arrived to work, I took a couple of deep breaths before walking into work, when I got their everything went normal, but there’s no guarantee that when Luke arrives that will not change.
The time has come when Luke should be here any minute now. It was weird because he was never late, that’s when his assistant came up to me.
“I need you to just send all calls for Mr. James, straight to his voicemail, if it’s emergency, then give them this number. He can’t be contacted by his phone. Ok thanks.”
“Wait, where is he? Is everything ok?”
“Yeah he just extended his trip with his family. Well have a great day.” She said.
That’s when she walked away, the knots in my stomach were still there. Now I was worried that something was wrong, or for the fact what if he doesn’t come back. I pulled my phone out and sent him a quick text.
Me: Hey. Is everything ok?
I went on with my work, all day I didn’t hear from him. When I got out of work, I tried calling him but went straight to voicemail. I then remember what assistant said, that he couldn’t be reached by his phone. I debated about going back up and getting that number. That’s when I had a melt down, I miss him. He was the best thing that happened to me, and what I was afraid of actually happen. My father ruined our relationship. That’s when I got out of my car, and went back upstairs to get that number. When I got back to the car I look a deep breath and before I started typing the number. Just then a text came in from Andrew,
Andrew: You off work? Movie night, friend?
I was thinking it maybe was an sign not to call him. So I didn’t, I put the piece of paper in my wallet. I then texted Andrew agreeing and headed over his place. Once I got to his place, I headed up stairs, as I walked past Luke’s apartment, my heart felt like it stopped beating. I then knock on Andrews door, it did take him a second to answer.
“Hey there, beautiful. Ready for that Movie night?” He said as he opened the door.
“Yes!” I said, as I put a smile on my face.
As I walked in I noticed Beer, pizza and popcorn sitting on the table as I was taking off my jacket. We then both sat on the couch, and he started the movie. He then put his arm around me, and we kind of cuddled up next to each other watching a movie. My head was all over the place, part of me wanted to forget about Luke, and enjoy my time with Andrew. On the other part of me wanted to call that number, and hear his voice, and see if everything is ok. Andrew kept ignoring a call that kept coming through. He seemed to be getting annoyed, I grabbed a beer and opened it. I wish there was a sign to tell me what to do!? Just then Andrew finally got up and told me he had to take this call, and went out into the hallway. That’s when I decided I was gonna call Luke, I grabbed the piece of paper and my phone and went into the bathroom, and locked the door. I then dialed the number, and after a couple rings, Luke answered.
“Hey.”
“Hey. I don’t know why I am calling, I guess I just wanted to hear your voice.”
“Well glad you called because I have missed your voice.” He said to me.
“Are you ok? I was worried when they told me you extended your trip.”
“Yes, everything is fine, I just wasn’t ready to come back home, and face it. So I decided to stay with my family a little bit longer. Seeing you at work is gonna kill me. But happy I still get to see you..”
“So you’re not gonna fire me?”
“No, why would you think that? Cause we broke up? I’m not that mean.”
Just then, there was a knock at the door, and Andrew was asking if I was ok.
“Yeah.” I said to Andrew.
“Well I gotta go, hope you come home soon!” I said before handing up.
I got up and went out to the living room, to finish the movie before going home. Except I don’t remember finishing the movie because I fell asleep.
Lucas
I got out of my car, and walked through the car garage to the elevator. After Grace called me last night, I knew I could handle coming home. It’s gonna be hard, but I can’t hide forever. So I called the airline, and got the first ticket I could to come home. I went up in the elevator, when I got to the main floor, that’s when I saw Andrew standing waiting for the elevator with two coffees in a cup holder. I stood next to him, he looked shocked to see me.
“Hey Luke? You’re back. How was your trip?”
“It’s was fine, nice to see my family, and meet my niece.” I said as we both walked into the elevator.
“Well that’s great.” He said to me, just then I noticed something.
One of the coffees, it was a Frappuccino, and just any Frappuccino, one that Is very specific that I have ordered many of times. Just then the doors opened up, and we both walked out.
“Well I see you later, glad you made it home safely.” He said to me.
Has Grace moved on that fast? Is she actually in Andrews apartment right now, where she slept over? I hopped in the shower and decided I would get ready for work. I was gonna go get breakfast before headed in so I showered, and got ready. By time I was walking out the door, I saw Andrew walking out of his apartment, and locking his door.
“Well we meet again,” he said.
“Yeah.” I said as I walked to the elevator.
“So I saw your had two coffees earlier, did you have a hot date from last night still over.”
“I wouldn’t say date, but she is hot. We’re more like friends.”
The way he said that, made it think it was Grace because the sound in his voice was kind of weird.
After we exited the elevator, we both walked to the elevator to the garage. We didn’t really say much, finally once we got into the garage we went our own separate ways. I got in my car, and I headed to a diner for some breakfast.
After breakfast, I headed to the office, when I walked out of the elevator, I notice Grace wasn’t at her desk. I headed to my office, as I sat down and logged in to my computer. That is when my assistant walked in,
“Welcome back boss. Hope you had a great thanksgiving.”
“I wouldn’t say it was a great one.”
“Oh no, I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. Did you need something?”
“Yes I have your messages and to tell you since your back, you have a 9:30 meeting today.”
“Ok thank you.” I said as she walked out.
I started my work, my head wasn’t there though. It was about the one woman that been on my mind for three months, a woman in this building somewhere. I tried to stay focus on my work. About 45 minutes has passed and I was on the phone when I actually heard her voice outside my office, I totally ignore what the person was saying on the phone. I told them I had to call them back, and then I hung the phone up. As I walked and opened my door, I saw her walking away from my office, I honestly felt like I couldn’t breathe. Just then I noticed something as I was turning around, I notice Michael walking out of the elevator, and Grace walking right up to him. They seemed like they were not agreeing with something, I decided to go into my office before I couldn’t control myself to stand up for her. I shut the door, and and went back to my door. Wasn’t long before my phone was buzzed by my assistant, telling me someone was here to see me. I told her to let them in, that’s when Michael walked through the door and shut it.
“How is it your here on the exact day I return to work?”
“Well I came yesterday, and a couple of employees told me you weren’t here. So I tried again today, and do you know what’s funny, I didn’t see my daughter here yesterday either but today your both here.”
“For one, I don’t understand why youre even here. Two, your daughter was working yesterday, I was out of town til this morning.”
“You know, I’ve helped you since the day we met. I helped you build up, and even helped you get where you are today. You would think you could be honest with me and respect me. I haven’t asked much from you, Luke. But the fact is my daughter has moved out and isn’t speaking to her mom or myself, this is ridiculous. I asked you to breakup with my daughter, I asked you to let her go from this job. This isn’t right how you did things.”
“Well for one, today is the first day I’ve seen your daughter since Thanksgiving, I broke up with her after she showed up to my door after everything blew up. We aren’t really in speaking terms right now. I understand your mad, I do but I made Grace happy, and she made me happy. I ended it all, because I do respect you, I wanted to tell you and so did she but she was afraid, afraid for what would happen in the long run. Honestly she was right, everything she feared happened. I’m sorry you had to find out the way you did. The only reason Maddie was there at dinner was because she has blackmailing me, she found out somehow and she was wanting me to give her attention or else she was gonna tell you. I care about Grace, Mike. Now for her job here, she needs a job I ain’t gonna just fire her, if she wants to leave then that’s her decision. But I have no reason to fire her, she’s a good worker. I am sorry for how I went about dating your daughter, I truly am.”
“Fine. But if you want my forgiveness? Then fix this, get my daughter to talk to us again without her freaking out on me.”
“Why me? We’re not even on speaking terms.”
“Because youre the only person I believe right now that can talk her into this..”
I was speechless, I just nodded my head. He didn’t say another word to me and just walked out of my office.
